Poor coverage, if your driver was not in the top 6, he was not only not seen, he wasn't even scored across the top of the screen. For Jason M to blame S Stewart for losing, that is a joke, Donny had him passed before the yellow. If drivers are good enough to make the main at Knoxville, they should at least show some of the racing back in the pack. Typical SPEED coverage. They do the same with ARCA and it stinks.

Also......The few words mentioned about Jeff Sheppard........that was a disgrace. At least have the latest update on Jeff. Our prayers are with you Jeff.

Uh, Jason had over a 2 second lead before the yellow, with two lapped cars in between.

I think Meyers comment about not getting off the track was more about Walker than S Stewart

My main complaint about SPEED was not showing the lap count.

Lap count was on there. But I will say it would have been better if they showed the complete run down instead of just the top ten on the top scrolling by. the could have gave some other guys a little tv time its a big accomplishment to make the show. And everyone that was in it had to work for it

Where are they supposed to get updates on his medical condition, from Hoseheads Forum ? Maybe they were respecting his families privacy. Without an official press release from the hospital or first hand info from next of kin, to say anything more would be irresponsible.

It's a short race on a short track. You can't show every car. The positions are constantly changing. If you want to watch your favorite backmarker, buy a ticket & go to the track.

Then perhaps the play-by-play announcer shouldn't have said "We would like to update you on Jeff Shepard's condition" ....... prior to saying "We would like to wish Jeff Shepard our prayers and best of get well wishes." The problem was just how they misled the viewer into thinking we were actually going to get an update.

Of course they could have just reported the same medical information in the press release by the Des Moines newspaper.

They did a similar number on the ASCS Lucas Oil information.... "There was big news announced at the nationals..." They showed highlights of Hahn talking about being excited to add Lucas Oil as a sponsor and he made a reference towards then improving their circuit, but SPEED did not even discuss one single detail about the announcements or provide any investigative reporting. I'm sure there were plenty of WoO viewers watching it and wondering what the heck just happened and what does it have to do with the WoO.

Also, I really think they need to do their homework prior to the event... it always surprises me how much they mis-recognize who the drivers are, where they are starting, etc. That is a lack of effort on the individual IMO.

Again, I am plenty thankful for the Live SPEED television coverage of the Knoxville Nationals, but there is nothing wrong with being critical to help encourage improvements for next year.

Typical NuWave Productions work. Shoddy at best. They are not known to be very skilled but they do work cheap... uh oh, I see the correlation now. lol
Cheers!

Giving a more specific update would not just have been irresponsible; it would have violated the 2003 HIPAA laws regarding privacy of medical records or medical treatment. Since there was not an official statement from Shepard's family, there was no official update that could have been given legally.

I also caught this while watching. Had I not known about the press release and the details regarding it, I wouldn't have known what the big news was. That being said, I am ALWAYS grateful for ANY sprints shown on TV.

I just wish they would show the best action on the track instead of just the top 5. If thre's nothing happening upfront then show some of the actual racing going on further back in the pack. I understand it's sometimes hard to find any close racing on a 1/2 mile track. Camera work was so-so, seen better work from small time dvd makers like sportsplus and highvista. I am glad they show the Nationals live. It's certainly better than nothing.

Whoever installed the in-car cameras should be dragged around a hard rocky track behind a herd of turtles.

What good are they when the driver's helmet takes up 80% of the screen? Even if they are installed well enough to be useful, using them during a LIVE event is a bad idea.

Kinser came up on Lasoski, so the genius in the truck switched to Lasoski's in car. By the time they got done playing with the toy and started showing the race again, Kinser had made the pass.

And they NEVER run the in car cameras when the field is strung out and there's no action. NO, THEY JUMP FROM CAR TO CAR IN THE FIRST 5 LAPS WHEN THE RACING IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!

The local Des Moines paper is in big time trouble then.

I applaud Walker. He not only blew his engine, but he lost his brakes. At a Saturday night Nationals, the pits are crowded with not only race crews, but people who are not used to paying attention around sprint cars. It could have been very dangerous for him to go into the pits with no brakes, not knowing how many people would be in his way. Perhaps it was bad for Meyers, but it was good for the safety of the people who were there. Had he gone into the pits with no brakes and run over some people, you all would be whining about what a bonehead he was for going into the pits with no brakes. It's a race. If Meyers was that strong, he should have been able to hold onto his lead on the restart. It's all about setting up the car to be good at the beginning and great at the end and tire management.

Walker wasn't going to run over anybody, the car was barely moving-he could have easily pulled into the pits.
