Feather Falls Casino Point Championship Nearing the End
(Chico, CA 8-6-08)...The Friday night Feather Falls Casino Friday night point championship series is nearing completion. This Friday night, August 8, will mark point race number 19 of 22. Three of the four regular racing divisions will be on hand this Friday. The 410-winged sprints, dirt modifieds and non-wing sprints are all scheduled to appear. It will also mark the third and final sponsor night of the year for Ashley Furniture. The local furniture home store has been heavily involved with the speedway the last three seasons. The 410 sprint car main event winner will earn $2,000.
Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00. Seniors and Juniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00. The sprint cars will qualify followed by all three divisions racing heats and main events.
Auburn's Andy Forsberg's championship lead is dwindling. Each of the past few weeks Oroville's Sean Becker has closed the gap. The gap is down to 13-points. Ironically, the last three championship nights of racing, Becker has gained 13-points. Now, with three races to go can Becker continue this charge? Both drivers have a previous track championship. Forsberg in 2006. Becker's came in 2005. “Sean has been putting the pressure on us,” said Forsberg. “He is having a great year again and there is not a better guy to race with.” Princeton's Mason Moore continues to hold down the third spot in points. Chico's Jonathan Allard is fourth but will not be in attendance. Allard is racing at the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa. Loomis driver Kyle Hirst is in the fifth spot.
Chico's Travis Moore is living the dream. After taking a few years off from racing, Moore has returned this year to stake his claim in victory lane. Two wins in nine starts in what he calls a 'R & D' season. Keith Bloom Jr. continues to be the driver to catch in the Joe Hunt Magnetos championship series. Orland's Taylor is still holding down the second spot in points. He narrowed the gap to 55-points. Mason Myers is third while his brother Cody Myers is fourth. Jimmy Pettit moved into the top five during this past weekend. Pettit plans on trying to stay in the top five.
Chico's Richard Papenhausen holds a 29-point advantage over Mark Abouzeid. Both drivers are very popular at the speedway and each have multiple wins. Papenhausen has two and Abouzeid four. Chico's Darin Ruley sits in the third spot. John Abbott and Mike Sohnrey round out the top five.
