Pretty incredible field of cars assembling for the Nationals kicking off thisThursday at Knoxville:

There are now 117 410's and 123 360's entered, for a total of 240 sprint cars.

Just checked the 10-day weather outlook, and it appears at the moment to be favorable too.

And there's good seats still available for all race nights.

Should be another great Iowa Speedweek - if you're still on the fence thinking about going!

Don't waste your time with the SC race as it's split with mini coopers etc on the road course.. Not worth the time of day...

Nice "A" feature payout for the 360's but the rest is sort of weak. Hope nobody wastes a car fighting for an 80 dollar position. Looking forward to Saturday night!

Let's all hope that the fan count is just as good. How are ticket sales compared to past years?

I hear you Canuckle! Doom and gloom for the greatest race on earth is all we heard from some people. To listen to a couple of them you'd swear they would like to see this race go under! No other race takes the place of the nats! Down with the naysayers!!!! See you in a few days, can't wait.

ticekt sales are way down compared to most years, there might be many factors for this other than economy, I know our group normally buys 12 seats for all nights, but when they went to the computer tickets, (that we can't trade on idividual nights) we quite buying early and all nights. Back in May there were approximately 10,000 sat night tickets available according to website seating chart, I would assume that most of those were sold as all 4 night packages, I also took the time late winter and that number was around the same, so I would guess that say 7,000 seats for all 4 nights sold before feb, 7,000x135= $945,000, now a couple of weeks ago there were almost 8000 left, and I would guess that at least 3/4 or those will go to 2 night, so that should equal another 3500 x 40= $140,000 so 1,085,000 should cover pruse and many expenses

Back to the older style this year but I wouldn't expect a whole bunch of them in this day of age. There were only 18 in the race at Richmond last month. Go Chet Fillip!

As of right now, Knoxville Raceway's online ticket ordering system estimates 11,832 4-day packages still available for the 410 Nationals.

I would expect more cars in Newton. Newton is closer to Indiana than Richmond, plus a few teams will come to fan at Knoxville and then race on Sunday.

As far as the MGs, sounds like a good time to hit the concessions if you don't like it.

ok since my number of tickets available was off decided to do some more math, knox has 24,172 seats not counting HOF, so they have sold 12,640 sat tickets at average of $43 = $543,520 say 1/2 attends friday, 6,320 @ $41= $259,120 and only 1/3 for both wed and thursday 4,213 @ $35 x both nights $294,910. 8 ,000 total pit passes for fan at $40= $320,000 and 120 cars at $200= 24,000 so kinda worst case they still have $1,441,550 and purse is less than a million, and with easy estimate of 200K in concessions, net another 80K profit knox will still make money to figure out how to increase fans for next year

One sidebar note to the purse discussion. Total 2008 Payout for this weekend's Nationals is $116,450. And each of Thursday/Friday night pays $2000/win the feature with solid payback throughout the field.

The point being, it's probably better to spread the purse out over three nights like they are instead of just having it all on Saturday night.

But one thing is for sure. $116,450 is the largest purse for ASCS type cars in 2008 - anywhere. The '08 STN is around $110,000 (including the Short Track Shootout and the Pack Dash) and the '08 Trophy Cup has an advertised purse of $112,500.

So matter how you slice it, no one else is paying more than Knoxville to ASCS type cars this year. Hopefully, with fans support, each of these events will all continue to grow each year.

Don't forget the event sponsors, I don't know what kind of money they pay but I'm sure it's substantial. I know several people that are going that will buy their tickets when they get there just like they do every year.

lake carl - I believe they've gone back to the old ticket format of individual tickets for each night. Tried something new, listened to the customers concerns, changed back.
