410s (20 Cars)

Welcome Mat
Wade Nygaard back in the Hansen #4, Joe Riedel back on a 15 day leave from Iraq signs in with his #15 and Miles Grein makes a shocking appearance

MIA
Gary DeWall, Lynton Jeffrey, Bronson Maeschen, Billy Alley, Todd Wanless

VIP
Moving down lower to join LDA24's family just coming off of turn 4. Wertz decided to spend his entertainment dollars for the weekend on the Poison concert last week at Jackpot Junction. Ya, I laughed histerically too when I got a text from the concert. Can't wait for a little Posse action next week to join the VIP!

Time Trials (1 laps each)
Mark Dobmeier (18th out) stomped the clock with a 10.768 lap to set his 3rd straight quick time, and overall 3rd quick of the year. This coming off of trashing a car last night and putting one back together today out at the Lunstra shop. Gregg Bakker at 10.938 was 2nd quick and Johnn Cressman broke 11 seconds also at 10.995. The rest of the drivers hitting the heat invert: Justin Henderson, John Lambertz, Chad Meyer, Scott Winters, Jake Peters, Marlon Jones, John Miller, Wade Nygaard, Chuck McGillivray, Mitch Runge, Joe Riedel, Dusty Ballenger, and Gordy Vogelaar.

Time Trials Grade: A; good to see Dobs dominating time trials. The man's gonna be tough to beat next week when the All-Stars roll into town. The track was very tacky and lots of grip, great upgrade from the last few races when it was dust during qualifications.

Heat 1 Finish: 28 2D 23w 13 9M/ 4 56 38 17B 12L

Heat 1 Notes: On the 2nd lap Nygaard got very loose in turn 2 but was able to save it, unfortunately he fell out of the invert spot he was holding. Very tacky track for the heats with some passing going on. Dobmeier moved up to 4th on lap 4 moving by Jones. Winters and Dobmeier would track down Ballenger but a narrow track wouldn't allow them to pass. Winters gives a massive wheelie coming out of 4 as well. Runge achieved his 3rd heat win of the year

Heat 2 Starting Order: 10 Laps

33

Gordy Vogelaar

Row 1

Joe Ridel

Heat 2 Finish: 33 15 1w 57x 11x/ D1 6 24M 101 13M

Heat 2 Notes: Miller would get into the turn 3 wall on the first lap, but would save it from going over. McGillivray was doing a damn fine job holding onto 3rd ahead of Meyer, Peters, & Bakker until he had a problem and pulled in with a few laps to go. That gave Bakker an invert spot for the feature. Vogelaar would hang on in a great race with Riedel as they were side by side most of the heat. It was his 4th heat win of the year

Heat Grade: B-; the heats weren't as good as they were the last few races, but it was great to see some moisture on the track, which would give us a great feature. The good drivers found a way to make it into an invert.

B Feature (Top 2 Tag the A, 10 Laps)
Starting Order: No B Feature as all 20 cars started the A

B Feature Grade: N/A

Initial start wasn't so great as Riedel got loose in turn 4 on the first go-around and that collected Nygaard who did a soft roll-over since he had nowhere to go. Nygaard was done but Riedel was able to rejoin the field. The next restart saw Peters take off with the lead with Meyer disposing of Jones to take 2nd to follow Peters on a very, very fast and racy track. It would be great to hear what they were running for laps as I'm guessing in the mid 12 second bracket.

After 10 laps Winters was able to join the top 3 pack of Peters, Dobmeier, and Bakker in traffic as he was rolling around on the high side. He was able to duck under Dobmeier for a pass but a lapper would negate that from happening. Dobmeier saw this line, executed it with a pass for 2nd at the halway point and then a pass for the lead on Peters coming off of 2 with 12 to go. On the next lap Winters somehow blew a right rear and would come to a stop.

Dobmeier had the restart lead and just set sail on the field getting to lapped traffic in a hurry. This one was all but over until Winters' front axle snapped entering turn 1 and a handful of the drivers did an amazing job to somehow miss him, including Peters. That caution came with 4 to go and half the massive crowd started to hit the exits, ala when McCarl had a lead with a few laps to go when a caution flew. Dobmeier held on for wint #5 of the year at Huset's and career win #25 in a 410 at the track. Peters led laps 1-13 as Dobmeier led 14-25. Peters held on for 2nd, Bakker 3rd, Henderson 4th, and Meyer 5th.

Finish: 13 57x 11x D1 1w 56 33 12L 9M 6/ 24M 38 23w 17B 15 13M 2D 4 28 101

A Feature Grade: A-; an amazingly great, fast track with Dobmeier picking his way to the win in traffic. Great battle was being waged in the middle of that feature and you can't as for much more than that, especially after the 2 freight trains we've been treated to the last 2 races.

360s (23 Cars, 18 Laps)
Robby Wolfgang had the pole position as he seeked his first ever career feature in a sprint car. The green flag waved about a half hour after his father, the great Doug Wolfgang was inducted into the Huset's Hall of Fame. He would take off with the lead and had victory in his grasp until a red flag flew for Kevin Flowers, running 3rd at the time, flipped when he got into the turn 2 wall.

A restart with 3 laps to go saw Wolfgang leading Brent Vonk, Rosenboom, and Bickett to the green. He was able to hold off the two cagey veterans to complete his first ever sprint car feature win to a standing ovation when he took the checkers. Vonk held on for 2nd, Rosenboom 3rd, Bickett 4th and Cody Hansen 5th. Wolfgang led all 18 laps.

360 Finish: 1 21v 27 17B 4 17 24 17v 5w 12/ 5x 11K 23 21D 3J 21

FOAW: Robby Wolfgang, nuff said. I gave it to the kid a few weeks ago, but he REALLY deserves it tonight with the way he handled the lead and pressure. He made a few mistakes throughout but they didn't cost him at all. Congrats to the 16 year old Wolfgang and Future Outlaw Ass Whipper!

Crowd Pleasing Moment #1: Getting to see Doug Wolfgang elected into the track hall of fame, only to see his son "up him one" by taking the 360 feature. Great interview after the race with Hot Rod. Hugs and tears all over victory lane as he was able to get the first one off his chest with many, many more to come in the future. Congrats again to the whole Wolfgang clan and as well to Loren Barstad for giving the kid a damn good car to drive.

Crowd Pleasing Moment #2: Getting to see Joe Riedel spend his 15 day leave at the race track. First time out in a 410 racecar obviously on the year and he ran very fast in the heat just coming up short. Thank you for all you do overseas Joe, and thank you to all the others who serve this country.

WTF: Great wheelies given all night by Winters and Meyer in the heat. Then Dobmeier tried doing his best TK impression down the frontstretch after collecting the victory. It wasn't exactly TK-esque but very damn nice indeed.

"Home of the Professionals" Moment of the Night: I honestly can't think of anything they did wrong. Great intermission with the hall of fame inductees, they followed it by grading the heavy track. No problems at all throughout the night, so bravo on getting one right on the year.

Mulligan Moment: Wade Nygaard having bad luck happen to him for the 2nd night in the #4 car. Tough luck, but nothing he could do in these last 2 races.

Head Scratcher: Winters having horrible luck for the 2nd straight night. He was battling for the lead Saturday night at the IRA show in Arlington, MN when he lost a left front tire ending his night up there. Then he somehow gets a flat right rear midway through the A and that was followed with the front axle cracking in half with a handful laps to go. Hopefully all the rough luck is out of the way with Knoxville coming up the next 2 weeks.

Thumbs Up: To the guy who sings the anthem in about 30 seconds. Good singer, gets to the point and gets it done in a hurry. He followed it with a Howard Dean-like 'YAAAAAA' after it on the microphone as well. Great way to start the night off.

Thumbs Down: N/A. Best night at the track and one of the greatest moments ever seen at a racetrack to the Report with the Wolfgangs in victory lane. Wow, still have chills from seeing that happen.

Prime Mover: Lambertz came from 19th to 8th to earn hard charger honors. Henderson from 12th to 4th and Cressman 13th to 6th.

Trophy Queen Grade: Good to see a young and cute fresh face in victory lane to join a few of the veterans. For that, The Report will give an A+ just for the hell of it!

Closing Stat: 6 days til the Report's appearance at the 360 Nationals, 10 til the 410's. And boy oh boy, are there some great surprises waiting to be revealed!

Closing Thought: What Dobmeier does to make the girls scream, giggle, and laugh in victory lane has finally been exposed, but won't be spilled in the Report. Sneaky little bastard that Dobs is, but I don't even think McCarl could come up with that idea!

It was an awesome night at Husets! Robbie Wolfgang ran a hell of a race, he was running some ridiculous lines. He really did a good job of passing some cars in his heat race and really handled the lap traffic well. The interview that kid gave after the race was hilarious. If this kid can keep it up I think he could be a superstar.

Bar none it was one of the best nights of racing I have seen in quite a while. Even the hobby stocks went flag to flag without a caution with side by side racing.

Robby Wolfgang wins his very first feature 37 years and 2 days after Doug won his very first feature at Huron. It was also Doug's 19th birthday.

Poison is 3/4 Posse as 3 of the 4 original members are from Mechanicsburg/Dillsburg - the precursor to Poison was Paris - I saw these guys at my high school, and all I could think was - why the he!! are these guys wearing so much freaking make-up!

(would have been about the time a VIP'er was on Mtv)

yep, Paris recorded their demo in our drummer's studio before they left for CA. they were so broke at the time that they ate PBJ in the studio while they recorded the demo tracks!

they were not the only local band to have some rough days during the early gigs in this area (Live / Public Affection got booted from several clubs as well during the start up years).

i think the original local guitar player stayed behind to finish college...
