Wow. Didn't even know this race was on. Just happened to find out when I was on Port Royals website. What an event! With the outlaws(pre-madonnas) far away, this is really shaping up to be a good one. I do beleive this one is worthy of a "running with the diesels"(Eckert) road trip followed by the MSCS race at Haubstat the following evening. Damn the gas prices-full speed ahead.

EXCITEMENT BUILDING FOR 2008 PORT DREAM RACE EXTREME

7/23/08 at the request of Port Royal Speedway

Port Royal, PA - The excitement is building for the second edition of the Dream Race Extreme for 410 sprints at Port Royal Speedway.

Slated for August 2 at 7 PM, the Dream Race will again pay $30,000 to win for 50 laps of racing, matching the track record that was set last year in the inaugural event when the historic Juniata County oval presented the richest event ever in the 69-year history of motorized racing at the track worth over $80,000.

The lucrative 2008 Dream Race Extreme will boast the same purse as last year’s show, which attracted 48 of the areas finest drivers. The event will again pay $1,000 just for starting as well as for setting fast-time in qualifying time trials.

But before anyone can have their Dream, the preliminary will be staged on Thursday, July 31, at 7.

Thursday’s event will pay $3,000 to win with the top four feature finishers transferring into the redraw of the first eight starting positions in Saturday’s Dream. Those four drivers will escape qualifying on Saturday.

In the inaugural Dream Race Extreme last season, Coplay pilot Sean Michael stole the lead and an electrifying victory from Thomasville’s Greg Hodnett with just two laps to go, creating bedlam at the track as Michael’s car owner Jim Nace was heralded in victory lane by the throngs of fans in attendance.

Hodnett proved victorious in last year’s preliminary race.

Time trials will again be used to set the starting lineups for both 2008 Dream Race events. The top four finishers from Thursday and the heat race winners on Saturday will draw for their starting spots at the front of the Dream Race field.

Saturday’s B Main will pay $100 to the first four non-qualifiers courtesy of Aumiller and Associates, insurance specialists.

Gates for the Thursday preliminary open at 4 PM while gates for Saturday’s Dream open at 10 AM with a host of activities on speedway grounds, slated for the entire day. The raindate for the Dream Race Extreme is Sunday evening, August 3.

Adult general admission tickets for Thursday will be $16 with students age 12 – 17 selling for just $10. Tickets for the Dream itself will be $27 with students priced at $15. Special two-day general admission passes will be available for just $40. Reserved seats are not available.

For more and complete information on the 2008 Dream Race Extreme and associated activities as well as event sponsors, visit www.portroyalspeedway.com.

I will be attending & then it's off to Sioux Falls Sunday morning!

$30,000 PORT ROYAL DREAM RACE EXTREME THIS WEEK

7/27/08 at the request of Port Royal Speedway

Port Royal, PA – Only six days remain until the running of the 2008 Dream Race Extreme for 410 sprints at Port Royal Speedway.

Slated for August 2 at 7 PM, the Dream Race will again pay $30,000 to win for 50 laps of action. With a total purse worth more than $80,000, identical to last year’s payout, the Dream Race Extreme boasts the richest payout ever to be assembled and disbursed by the Juniata County oval since motorized racing began at the track in 1938.

The lucrative event will again pay $1,000 just for starting as well as for setting fast-time in qualifying time trials and just as last year when 48 cars signed in for action, another stellar field of the region’s finest high-flying pilots is expected to compete.

Just some of the area drivers already confirming their intent to vie in the 2008 Dream Race aside from Port regulars include: Fred Rahmer, Brian Leppo, Stevie Smith, Chad Layton and Doug Esh along with defending event winner Sean Michael.

Also on the agenda this week at Port Royal is the Dream Race preliminary, slated for Thursday, July 31 at 7 PM.

The prelim will pay $3,000 to win with the top four feature finishers transferring into the redraw of the first eight starting positions in Saturday’s Dream. Those four drivers will escape qualifying on Saturday.

Last year, eighth starter Sean Michael of Coplay motored to the front to pass Greg Hodnett, the winningest driver in the East at the time, with two laps to go to collect the massive $30,000 checkered flag in the Dream. Hodnett collected $12,000 for second after claiming the Thursday preliminary main.

Time trials will again be used to set the starting lineups for both 2008 Dream Race events. The top four finishers from Thursday and the heat race winners on Saturday will draw for their starting spots at the front of the Dream Race feature field on Saturday.

Just some of the day-long attractions taking place on speedway grounds during the day leading up to the Dream Race Extreme on August 2 include: professional wrestling, sprint car simulators, remote control car racing, antique race car displays, tire changing contests and autograph sessions.

Adult general admission tickets for Thursday’s preliminary will be $16 with students age 12 – 17 selling for just $10. Tickets for the Dream itself will be $27 with students priced at $15. Special two-day general admission passes will be available for just $40. Reserved seats are not available.

I can't see this race Not having a healthy car count. The prizes are amazing for a non-sanctioned race. It's a shame that lincoln is running that evening.

Port Royal Questions: Last Sat was my first visit there. Enjoyed the regular Sat show. Would appreciate some info from Possefolks to help me up to speed:

(1) Quals : how do they qualify the field for regular Sat shows? I arrived 7pm, did I miss qualifying?

(2) Track conditions: thundershower about 4pm. Track looked fast & no dust (to me). How were track conditions last Sat? How many grooves? How's that compare to normal conditions?

(3) Extreme Dream : I read above re. quals based on Thurs. For this Sat, how much will Sprint Cars actually be on the track before the B- main & 50 lap feature. How many heats likely & how many laps/ heat. Will there be single car time trials on Sat?

Really enjoyed my first visit to Port Royal & considering the 160 mi trip this Sat. (based on Doppler Radar at etd). Thanks for the info.

...who's racing at Lincoln on Sat ??

(1) Regular Saturday night shows are lined up by handicapping based on $ earned or points. There are no time trials at a regular show. High $ or point guy that qualifies through their heat will start 12th in the feature.

(2) Track prep can be iffy, however from what I'm hearing they actually worked the track when you were there.

(3) Should be 4 heats, either 8 or 10 laps, hopefully 10. There will be time trials!

I think there were 47-48 cars last year. I would expect nearly the same amount or slightly less this year regardless if Lincoln runs. The 5-6-7 (?) cars capable of making the race from Lincoln will be there. You may see a few Western Pa. cars and maybe a New York car. The only variable is the weekly backmarkers (Not bashing) from Port sometimes do not show when it is a "ya all come" race at Port.

Time trials probably will be 2 laps, but Port is VERY good with getting time trials in. They stage the cars in the infield pull off area and shove them off in a timely manner. It usually goes rather quick. Catching the times off the scoreboard may be a challenge. They also fail to announce the time trial results which is utterly rediculous. You'll know who the top 5 is maybe.

They did do something to the track last week.......don't know what.

I don't agree with the format for the line up. I hate drawings. If they line the heats up with some sort of time trial invert (fast cars at 4th-5th-6th)...it may be tough to get to the front of the heat to earn a redraw for the top 8 spots for the 50 lap grid....hence you get hosed for timing well. (If this is the case).

Best food around if they open some of the Church/Other stands up. Weekly fare isn't bad regardless.

You can not beat the seats or the view.

You need to attend the Tuscaroro 50 during the County Fair.....another good show and experience.
