Skagit Speedway Media ~ Kaleb Hart

Alger, WA- Midseason Championship night at Skagit Speedway presented by Les Schwab saw Outlaw 410 Sprint point leader Barry Martinez stretch his point lead, holding off Colton Heath in lapped traffic en route to leading all 25 laps of the feature. Starting on the pole, Martinez shot into the early lead in his Artisan Homes #66, pacing Heath by up to 8 car length's on the historic 3/10 mile clay oval. Heath, driving the XXX #7o, closed the advantage in lapped traffic by lap 10 but Martinez was too strong. With his right rear planted hard on the cushion, Martinez kept the youngster at bay, picking up another win and stretching his point lead. Martinez also won the scramble. Heath brought home second, third went to Fisher in the J&R Paving #59.

Budweiser 360 Sprint driver's points leader Brian Kirkpatrick scored his first career victory in the division, beating Cory Chamberlain into turn one on the opening lap and never looking back. Piloting his Jet City Equipment #5K, Kirkpatrick got the jump on Chamberlain on the initial green, then dove hard to the bottom of turn one forcing Chamberlain to get off the gas. Similar to the 410 main, Chamberlain, aboard the Classic Rock 92.9 #69, would close the gap in traffic a few times, but could never get a strong enough run on Brian to make the definitive pass. The win was Kirkpatrick's first, just two weeks after father Danny scored his first win. Chamberlain finished second with Alan Munn bringing the Munn Construction #42 home third. Chamberlain won the scramble.

In the Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints, Kelsey Carpenter inherited the lead on the 17th lap when race leader Devin Madonia broke rear end components and scooted his way to victory 3 laps later. Madonia held serve from the get go, comfortably racing ahead of Carpenter. Disaster struck on 17 when Madonia's car lost power coming off of turn 4, handing the lead to Carpenter. Carpenter would easily drive away to score the win in his Action Cleaning #79K, his fourth of the year. Second went to Kyle Oman in the Louis Auto Glass #6K, third going to Bill Rude in the Zip Tune #33. Madonia won the scramble.

In the Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornets, Ben Gunderson held off Cory Swatzina to score a main event win, besting 30+ other drivers. After losing a few positions on the initial start, Gunderson battled his way back around the likes of point leader Rick Young, Tyler Ketchum and Ken Higby to take the lead on lap 5. Gunderson then withstood the pressure applied by Swatzina to take home the victory. Third place went to Higby. Gunderson also won the scramble.

Skagit Speedway is off this week for Deming Speedway's Clay Cup Nationals. We resume racing 7/26 with the Ouitlaw 410 Sprints, Budweiser 360 Sprints, Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprints and Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornets. For ticket information, visit www.skagitspeedway.com
