Andy Gregg races to runner-up in Quincy

By Gary Thomas

Quincy, CA – June 23, 2008…Rebounding from a disappointing outing the weekend before, Team Guts Racing driver Andy Gregg battled for a runner-up finish with the California Civil War 360 Series this past Saturday night at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy.

Gregg went into the night sitting eighth in the Civil War standings and was coming off an event in Calistoga that saw him finish eighth in the B-main the previous Saturday. The Placerville driver hoped to rebound in Quincy and he started off the night by clocking the 22nd quickest lap in qualifying aboard the Myers & Sons Drywall, Dale Miller Plumbing No. 16x.

It put Gregg on the front row for his heat race and he was able to get out front and race away to pick up his first Civil War Series heat race victory of the season. Even despite the heat race win however, he was forced to start way back in the ninth row for the evening’s 30 lap main event. The 3/8 mile dirt oval has had a reputation of being tough to pass on, as well as being very treacherous on the initial starts of the main event.

This night was no different as it became a bottom groove surface and the first couple starts in the feature saw big pile-ups and forced a large reshuffling of the field. Gregg was a major benefactor of the accidents as it moved him all the way up to the first few rows and he was able to race amongst the top cars during much of the main event.

After 30 laps of competition he brought the Circle Racing Wheels, Comstock Mortgage Maxim home in the second position behind first time winner Myles Bishop. It was a great point night for Gregg as it will give the team some momentum heading into the next Civil War Series event, which will be held at the Petaluma Speedway on July 5.

The Guts Racing team will be in action this Saturday night at the Placerville Speedway looking for season win number one at the high-banked, red-clay bullring.
