Can anyone tell me if Hwy 92 is clear in the Skunk & Des Moines river basins? Flooding is kinda crazy right now and my buddy told me the water was pretty close to the road when he went to the WoO show on Sat. I remember 1993 having to detour when the bad floods hit.

What the site is really saying is that you can't get there from here.

Marshalltown here, what used to be a 50 minute drive to Waterloo will become 3 hours by tonight as all roads going north over the Iowa river are closed as well as US 30 will close by supper time and is already closed west of here.

The Des Moines river is expected to start flooding downtown Des Moines by tonight also.

1993 all over again, and it looks like the boating interests have succeeded in forcing the Corps of Engineers to cause flooding due to their mission changing the reservoirs from a flood control to recreation status.

When the reservoirs are full for recreation, not much room left for flood control.

Columbus Junction where the Iowa & Cedar come together is going to get very bad, They were at 23ft today which is considered severe flooding but will not crest until Monday at 32 ft. They said that will beat the flood of 1998 by about 4 ft. Hopefully they can contain it some how but it does not look good at all for Columbus Junction and probably Fredonia as well. CJ Raceway will probably be in 10 ft of water. Heavy rains in the forecast for Thursday is defintately going to hurt. Hopefullly thaat storm does not develop as they are saying. Old Miss is going to get real high again but so far not close to 98, thank God as I live just cross the Highway from it at about 8 - 10 ft above flood stage.

Because of Corps of Engineers mismanagement, the City of Des Moines will be getting hit with a wall of water at about 10AM today.

If people think our elected officials betray our trust, the appointed officials really betray it.

..cry me a river... LOL... I thought Duane was all for personal accountability and taking what comes your way through your own actions? Well people chose to live near a flood prone area and mother nature acts on her own free will. Now NODUST wants to blame politicians for not protecting them?? Seems like he is flip floppy to me... Either you want government involvment for some things or you dont, which is it? Is it just when it suits you? I remember you laughing your ass off during Katrina, was that just cause it was mainly Black folks affected? Fill me in cause its hard to keep up with you Duane, just like the weather it changes.
Cheers!

flooding in the Downtown Des Moines was never a problem BEFORE the Corps of Engineers built their flood control project.

This will be the second time in the past 16 years that the Corps flooded the downtown of Des Moines.

BTW I live on high ground.

I still think Katrina was made worse by the low intelligence of its residence and political leaders.

Iowa will recover, mostly by their own resources. Just North of me is a town that was 40% taken by an F5 totonado just days ago that is now under water.

These people will survive without much looting, without credit cards and trailer houses provided by the govt.

I don't feel sorry for people who build in a known flood plane, but I do feel sorry when the Corps of Engineers, on purpose, flood people out of their homes through gross mismanagement of their jobs.
