FROM THE OFFICE OF JOHN PADJEN MOTORSPORTS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2008

MEDIA CONTACT: BILL SULLIVAN: [email protected]

Saturday is Cold Springs Community Church Night at Placerville Speedway

PLACERVILLE, CA – Community sponsorship continues this Saturday night at Placerville Speedway for the sixth New Car Dealers of El Dorado County, Hoosier Racing Tires, Arnolds for Awards championship point racing of the season. This Saturday will be “Cold Springs Community Church Night” at the El Dorado County Fairground with bonus winnings for all three of the weekly divisions.

Cold Springs Community Church of Placerville became a proud partner of Placerville Speedway in the 2004 racing season when they began sponsoring the weekly fast qualifier and later became the sponsor of the weekly “Hard Luck Award,” which presents $50 weekly to the driver deemed to have had the toughest break of the night in the form of an accident, mechanical mishap or a photo finish. In addition to the weekly sponsorships, Cold Springs Community Church recently sponsored a new flagpole and flag to Placerville Speedway in memory of Pure Stock driver Terry Scher and Don Wilson, the Associate Pastor for Cold Springs Community Church, has dedicated himself to be the official track chaplain for Placerville Speedway and John Padjen Motorsports since 2003.

This Saturday, the Cold Springs Community Church will bring some 200 guests to Placerville Speedway and will add $1000 in victory bonuses for the night. The winged sprint car division will pick up a $500 bonus this week, bringing the win up to an impressive $2000. Additionally the winners of the Pure Stock and Pro Stock divisions will each pick up a $200 bonus for their efforts.

“Don Wilson and the Cold Springs Community Church have been dedicated community partners to Placerville Speedway,” said Bill Sullivan, Communications Director for John Padjen Motorsports. “Their support is greatly appreciated and it goes way beyond their monetary contributions. This sport is driven by family support and they bring a great deal of that to the speedway in the form of promotions like this and Don’s weekly invocations and inspiration to our drivers and staff. It is this type of support the sponsorship and money cannot buy at any price.”

Entering Saturday’s event, Colby Wiesz of Colfax leads the series point standings in the winged sprint cars. Wiesz, who drives the John Taylor Motorsports, Thompson’s Toyota #35 sprint car now holds a 20-point lead over Placerville’s own Jimmy Trulli. Wiesz has four top five finishes in the series, including a feature victory. Trulli has three top finishes in the season so far as well as a heat race victory.

David Robinson Jr. of Foresthill will return with the momentum of his recent victory in the fifth annual Tribute to Al Hinds last Saturday night. Robinson is third in the point standings, 22-points out of the lead. Placerville’s Scott Russell is tied for fourth in the ranks with Andy Forsberg of Auburn. Both Russell and Forsberg are 23-points behind the leader. Defending champion Greg DeCaires of Elk Grove is sixth in the standings.

In the Pro Stock division, four time winner Dan Brown Jr. of Nevada City will be looking to capture the $200 bonus and his fifth win of the season. With the added bounty many drivers will be looking to dethrone Brown from his recent win streak. One such driver will be Jeff Arbogast of Auburn who is second in the standings ahead of Dennis Ahart of Cameron Park. Forryst Carnett of Placerville is fourth, tied with Dennis Armstrong of El Dorado. Ray Trimble of Auburn and Del Tremblay of Camino sit just out of the top five.

In the Pure Stock standings, veteran driver Rick Grunert leads the point standings and will look to make his second win of the season a lucrative one. Grunert is currently tied for the lead with Brian Stevens of Pollock Pines. Danielle Clauson of Placerville sits just 25-points behind the tied leaders. Jared Vilt of Cameron Park is fourth followed by Keith Fournier and BJ Hauck of Placerville.

The gates to Placerville Speedway will open at 5 p.m on Saturday night. Qualifying will be at 6:30 followed by heat races for all divisions. The three track regulars are being joined by the midget lites of the Bay Cities Racing Association.

The Cold Springs Community Church is one of several community “new faces to the races” sponsors this season. Additional sponsors in the upcoming weeks include Golden One Credit Union of Placerville and El Dorado Hills, NMI Industrial Contractors,Specialized Parts Planet, A&A Stepping Stone, Morrison Concrete.and Performance Plus Carpet Care.
