This goes out to all of the drivers and crews that will be participating in the car show and bbq tomorrow, May 3 at Family Chevrolet in Shingle Springs to kick off the fifth annual Tribute to Al Hinds Civil War race at Placerville. At this time, I wish to thank each and everyone of you ahead of time for responding to the invitation and becoming involved with this very special event.

This event has been a challenge to coordinate with all the parties involved and the response has been overwhelming with the majority of that response has been extremely positive from the sponsors, the community and the race teams involved. There is one thing I have learned through the years and its something that comedian Bill Cosby is quoted as saying, "I have not yet learned what the secret of success is, but I know that the secret of failure is trying to make everyone happy."

Tomorrow's event is just the first of many of its type in the future, in the years to come this event will grow bigger and bigger and in the words of the sponsor, we need to all remember that this day and this race is not about a bonus, its not about a local business boosting sales, its about a community working together to promote the great sport of sprint car racing and to show their appreciation for a legend in the sport.

We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow for this event, invite your friends, tell your neighbors to bring the kids to Family Chevrolet, 4050 Motherlode Drive in Shingle Springs between 10 am and 1 pm to meet some 15 different drivers, see their cars, get an autograph and enjoy a free lunch courtesy of this community minded business.

Mr Hinds was a friend to the racing community, he played a big role in the local development of auto racing in El Dorado County. I know he touched many lives in the sport today prior to his passing five years ago. I consider myself to lucky to have known this person that had so much influence on this sport, it was his passion, it is my passion and I think it is a passion for all of us here.

As we come together tomorrow I ask that we all take a moment and remember what this day and this event is all about and that there will be many young race fans in attendance that will look back someday at things like this and may recall what inspired them to become involved.

Again, thank you to everyone involved for tomorrow bbq and the "Fifth Annual Tribute to Al Hinds" Civil War Race. Thank you to Tony and the entire group at Family Chevrolet for believing in this event five years ago and taking it another step further this year. Al Hinds was a man of great pride, and I know that he is proud of what we building as a community in his honor.

Sincerely,

Bill Sullivan
