Easter Egg Hunt at Silver Dollar Speedway During Silver Cup Races

Chico, CA 3-17-08...The Silver Cup Race of Champions continues it's annual two night racing format this weekend, March 21 and 22, at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Three divisions will compete on the quarter-mile clay oval racing surface. The winged 360 sprint cars will highlight the event along with the wingless sprints and dirt modified's. There will be plenty of racing action this weekend with Friday night hosting preliminary racing and Saturday night each division will race a 30 lap feature main event.

Also this weekend Easter festivities will play a big role. Each night children 11 and under will be admitted free into the grandstand. On Saturday night the racing will be halted and kids will get the chance to go on an Easter Egg hunt on the grass infield at the speedway.

The biggest attraction might be the debut of Chico's Stephen Allard in dirt modified racing. The defending 410 sprint car champion is still slated to defend his title on Friday nights, however, this weekend he is ready to strap into an Ira Compton dirt modified and sling some mud with the best in that division. “I don't have a sprint car ride for this weekend and I always wanted to race a modified so I guess it all just worked out for me to drive Compton's car,” said Allard. Many interested eyes will be focused on the sprint car champ to see what he can do in the dirt modified. Racing with Allard will be Chico's Mark Abouzeid in his Chico Volkswagen #27. The “Rocket Man” is one of the strongest competitors at the track. Abouzeid will be pulling double duty this weekend as he is also slated to drive his non-wing sprinter. Mike Sohnrey of Durham and Richard Papenhausen are also scheduled to race. Papenhausen is the defending track champion of the series. The dirt modified Saturday main event winner will receive $1,000.

Winged sprint cars will be lead by Grass Valley driver Brad Sweet and Loomis resident Kyle Hirst. Sweet, who over the winter was signed by Kasey Kahne Racing, will pilot a Rod Tiner tuned #83 sprint car. Hirst is driving the familiar GP Development #6. Both Sweet and Hirst have wins at the speedway. Other previous winner's in the sprint cars include Chico's Shain Matthews and Sacramento's Willie Croft. Chico is represented by Brad Bumgarner in the family owned #88. Princeton's best sprint car driver Mason Moore returns to build off his rookie of the year performance last year. Returning back to Chico as a driver is Sacramento's Steven Tiner. Tiner spent the last few year's traveling with the World of Outlaws as a crew member. During the past three years he has only raced five times. A one time front runner, it will be good to see Tiner behind the wheel of a sprint car in California. Former track champions Sean Becker will also compete in the #2sb. According to local sources many of our good friends from the Pacific North West are scheduled to compete in the winged 360 racing. The Saturday night main event winner will receive $2,000.

Taylor “Technical” Simas will lead the charge of the wingless sprints. Simas enjoys trying to dunk basketballs in recreational basketball games and is a pretty good racers in the wingless division. Last year Simas scored two wins on the Friday night circuit. Reyna Krueger is scheduled to continue her success and look towards he first win of her career. Chico's Jimmy Pettit has new equipment and is ready to show the rest of the field his back bumper. The wingless Saturday night winner will receive $1,000.

Pit gate opens at 3 pm each afternoon. Front grandstand gate opens at 5 pm. General adult admission is $15.00 on Friday and $20.00 on Saturday. Juniors are $11.00 each night. Once again, children under the age of 11 are admitted free.
