It's been almost a month since we hosted Tony Jones and the Alexander Race team at the Zanzabuku Sports Lounge in Lakewood. The annual pre-season event was a success and we must thank the folks that helped make it successful. It was the second year that the Lakewood bar had hosted the team and fans.

Lance Jennings of SCRAFAN.com provided many of our raffle items that included framed photos of the Cowboy in action. He also donated several hand-outs that included a race calendar and a video featuring the team's 2007 championship season. The professional, high quality video was played throughout the day and was filmed by Jeff Kristensen of Raceway Video. Also long-time sponsors John and Maria Gardner, owners of the La Villa Mexican Restaurant in Gardenia, brought enchiladas, rice, beans, chips and salsa for the hungry race fans. The bar provided a taco bar that featured a choice of four different grilled meats and fixings.

The Saturday afternoon get together featured more than 30 raffle items with several lucky winners. The give-away included framed photos of Jones, ball caps, tee-shirts, flashlights, an air compressor, a high tech screwdriver, binoculars, camera and candles. The 50/50 drawing netted a total of $240 with the race team collecting half of the winnings. The bar also sold its house specialty Jell-O shots (vodka and jell-o or tequila and jell-o) with the proceeds going to the team. At the end of the day the team collected $400 in donated funds.

Race fans enjoyed spring like weather while checking out the famous race car that was parked in front of the bar. The Cowboy fired up the famous Alexander #4 "Silver Bullet" and took one trip around the small business center much to the entertainment of race fans and somewhat shocked shoppers and business owners of the center. It was the highlight of the day. There was plenty of good food, cold drinks and a lot of bench racing provided for the race fans. The bar proudly displayed on its main wall several framed photos of Tony and the Alexander Team. Once again thanks to all who contributed and to the race fans for their support.

On another note, while I was in attendance at Saturday night's race at the PAS, I was able to pickup Jeff Kristensen's Oval Nationals from last year at the track's souvenir stand. The three disc set, one for each night of the Nationals, is a must for any fan of the sprint cars. Professionally done, it features Jeff's excellent camera work (I believe he used three different cameras) along with Scott Daloisio's terrific audio for each race. It can be purchased at the PAS for a special price. It is worth every cent of it.

Also Steve Howard of So-Cal Performance as always was in the pits and in addition to his support of the sprint car teams, also features several books and photos for race fans. One that I intend to purchase soon is a book featuring open wheel legend Jim Hurtibese. Steve is a former driver and son of SCRA founder and first president Glenn Howard. He is busy selling laps to promote the Labor Day weekend USAC/CRA race at the famous Calistoga ½ mile. The race, that includes the USAC Western States Midgets, will honor former Northern Auto Racing Club (NARC) president Lou Vermeil. Former pro football coach Dick

Vermeil, will be helping Steve with the race in honor of his Dad. The two date show is set for August 30 and 31. If you would like to sponsor a lap see Steve Howard so that this memorable race can get off the ground. It's been more than 25 years since the traditional sprint cars have graced this famous track.
