With the warmest weather so far during the running of the 9th Annual GRP Racing Trivia Contest, many fans could shed those jackets and enjoy a rather balmy day at the MDTR Speedway on Monday. Many contestants were tuning up their entries today with numerous hot lap sessions. Plenty of work in the pits too, as competitors try to outguess each other as to who will find the quick way around. We did have one entry arrive on day #2. Once again, it was in the newly revised super/street/stock car division and it came from a very strong contender. We also have an update from the tech shed.
Fresh off his stellar performance and championship title in the late model division last week, Mark Schreiner (Tireguy) returned to action at the track today with a recently purchased 2007 Gator Chassis from Tim Borgeson. As the 2008 VFC Rookie of the Year in the sprint cars took to the high-banks in his super, contest fans could see that Mark had the B17 (he only had time to change one number) cranked up pretty good. Mark knows his way around, so it was only a matter if he could avoid some of those tricky spots and make the right choices. Upon completing his run, Stan M waved the checkered flag and Mark immediately flipped up his visor and looked at the scoreboard for that all-important tally. Just like he did in his championship run in the late models, Mark posted a very stout 36 point effort in only his second attempt in this division. Last year Mark earned a 4th place finish and ROY honors in the supers. Mark has also been working on his mod entry, but he needs more time to prepare that one. Mods are his favorite, so Mark is trying hard to be on top of his game.
In a scoring update from the contest, promoter GRP has decided to accept either one of two answers for the #69 super stock photo in the contest. It has been brought to his attention that one of two drivers could have been in the car, so to be fair GRP decided to just accept either answer. That means Scott Paulson's score from yesterday has been increased by one point to a total of 34. There's always something going on in the tech shed at MDTR.
One of the big mysteries this year has been the noted absence of Vinster's VMAX Maximum Babes pit crew. Vince was not able to get his sprint entry ready in time. Maybe the crew will make an appearance anyways without Track Rat Vinster. Keith and Sally report that concession sales are going well. We might have a famous sprint car...oops make that stock car announcer in the tower later in the week. He first has to get his entries fine-tuned and on the track before he puts on the tux and heads to the tower.
Current Standings through Jan 28 (Day #2)
Super/Street/Stock Car Division:
1. Mark Schreiner, Hutchinson MN = 36
2. Scott Paulson, Kimball MN = 34 ROY
No mod entries yet.
*ROY denotes Victory Funding Connection Rookie of the Year contender.
