There are 5 drivers that have been announced as contending for WoO rookie of the year, Axsom, Torgerson, Thiel, Bogucki, and Jedzejek (who?) Two, Axsom and Thiel, have over 70 starts with the WoO. To me, that seems to take a little luster off the achievement if either of those were to win it.

Nope, I'm afraid I have to respectfully disagree.

None of these guys have run a full outlaw season. Beating that quality of group over the 70 or so races would be quite an achievement.

The B mains should be pretty good when you mix in the locals in most markets.

Can't wait!

They've never run for a WoO title, so yes, they are rookies.  Much like every other rookie there has ever been besides 1978.

I'd say Joey Saldana was a very seasoned driver by 1996 when he won WoO rookie of the year after having run a ton of races and had an Outlaw win in 95'.

I disagree as well. I'd say many of the drivers in the current era had multiple WOO starts before taking the plunge. We don't always have the luxury of having a really young drivers with minimal starts have the capabilities and funding to race the tour.

Fair enough. Different strokes for different folks.

So, which WoO Rookie of the Year had the most WoO wins before he won that honor? :)
