Since I knew I couldn't get my motor completed in time for the Carolina Sprint Tour race at Carolina Speedway this past weekend, I decided to surprise my dad with tickets to the Indiana Allstar Game at Hoosier Gym, the home gym from his favorite movie.

The games were going perfect.  The history and perfection of basketball were all there.  Life was beyond anything we could imagine.

Then all of a sudden, Karl Kinser walked by us.  Dad nailed me in the ribs and said thats Karl.  I stood up after I caught my breath and screamed Karl to see if it was actually him.

He stopped, turned around and waved.  We rushed down the old wooden bleacher and he talked to us for five minutes like we were the best friends he ever had.

I literally have photos of my dad and I at the Hoosier Gym with Karl Kinser.  Holy God how awesome is that!

That's very awesome. I'm pretty sure in the movie Hoosiers Oolitic was one the towns the team played against. Karl's hometown.

Karl was the most well known crew cheif, owner.inovator, and was as popular as the top drivers. Pesonality and treated everyone with respect. There will never be another like him.Things were different in that era and He was having fun doing what He loved. Steve was one of the best but He made Mark a star and also when He needed a replacement They were upfront to.

Also before his years with Steve he had great success with Dick Gaines.

That would be like Bobby Knight walking into Terre Haute to take in a USAC show.

I met Bobby Knight at National Sports Festival in Colorado Springs, 1983... also Dean Smith. It was all the guys too young to play on Olympic team, & quite a group: Walter Berry. Pearl Washingon, Kenny Smith, Kenny Walker, Antoine Walker, etc. Guess who impressed me the most? Scott Skiles, Indiana boy who played for Mich. State (also holder of NBA single gane assist record: 31! :)

Scott Skiles was a great player and didn't back down from no one got into a fist fight with Shaq when they played for the Magic.

Skiles was something else. As kids, we would all try to imitate his 360 degree around the waste no-look pass.

When they played Michigan he kept trash talking Antoine Joubert calling him 'fat boy' all game lol.

I didn't know that... I wonder what provoked the fight?

Don't remember all the details but it was during practice and they had a disagreement and Skiles being Skiles wasn't taking any shit lol.
