I just watched the highlights of Port Royal's first major sprint car race of the season------The Keith Kauffman Classic.  From what I could tell, it looked like a fantastic race.  Many of the comments I read were very complimentary with one being "as always great racing, and the track prep was amazing!"   I just thought I'd share as only someone completely out of touch with reality would disagree.

I am grateful that all that fuel laying on the track didn't ignite that everyone was standing in after that 1st lap crash.

I have Been to all of them. I would rank last night as 2nd or third best of the 4 so far. They were going fast though, that is important to some.

That sounds good but what I'm really wondering about is what were the lap times in hot laps?  That is what determines if it's a good show right?

On a sunny, winding day with I  think 3 oclock start that was the fourth best of the four. Satuday was not even close to the best of the four. Some full of sh!t guy was mentioned while we talked about that Saturday. If deitz had not had a flat & Stutts had not gotten by Macri for a few laps the would have been the third best race of the four for sure.

Crazy.  The all time record for 20 laps at Knoxville Raceway is 16.25----that's the all-time record.  I have seen a lot of great features at Knoxville with them turning 20 second laps.  In most instances, the 20 second laps lead to a much better race than the 16.25 second laps, so I'm not sure I see the connection the same way.  Many of the Knoxville Nationals produce some fantastic finishes, but according to what you're saying, they are turning unacceptably high lap times?

If you read the post I was replying to numbnuts, you would see I was responding to FEATURE times.

Also curious as to why someone would refer to Port Royal racing with "as always great racing........"  They, along with everyone else I've ever spoken to in person, must not have the same insight as you.

Does anyone have the average starting position of feature winners at Port this year?

Maybe good racing isn't all about track prep as you say, I think Lincoln's average starting position is 1.2 in 5 races!!!

Thought you don't do excuses. Now you are using them because Port Royal likely has the highest average winner stating position so far that you can find.

LOL LOL LOL LOL

19 Heat Races this year.... EVERY one of em won from front row.

5 A Mains this year....... EVERY one of em won from front row.

4 B Mains this year.....  THANK GOD for Tyler Ross winning one from row 2, the ONLY race of 28 this year won from outside front row

27 of 28 front row winners, week in and week out.

MAN THAT'S EXCITING.... to drag racing fans, but not sprint car fans.   Hillariously blinded by homerism for sure.

What will happen soon is the handicapping where they will start 6 guys in the first three rows who, since they were at every race, will be inverted into the front 6 spots of the A....problem is they will be going pace truck speed 1.5 seconds slower than Rahmer and Dietrich and when the 2 fast guys pass em,  some idiot will say it was great racing.

OK. I see what you're saying. Dietrich didn't pass 10 cars to win the feature race at Port Royal. He actually only passed 7 cars to win- which is more than all the cars the feature winners at Lincoln passed in all five feature races so far this year.
