I was at the 90' Kings Royal, rain had just hit the track after Doug Wolfgang scored his 2nd win, and word was just starting to get around there if I recall.

I was watching that night as well. Rich was scheduled to make a NASCAR Cup start, I believe thy said that Sunday. He may have gone a lot further in his racing career but we will never know. I'll never forget watching the reaction of the first person who got to the car.

The same facial expression that Schreader had after he stuck his head in the window of Earnhart's car after the Daytona crash.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading an article that he had landed a full time ride with that NASCAR team and was set to announce that from victory lane at Salem.

Like it was yesterday, I can still see the helmet rolling down the track and thinking 'that's not good'.

Was at a USAC Western States midget show, maybe Bakersfield, when we heard the USAC officials talking about it on the radio. I was too young to appreciate Vogler, but quickly learned about him that night.

Here is the ESPN tribute. I have this on VHS someplace but I can probably toss it now as it is forever uploaded to youtube.
