I've been watching Sammy race for nearly 40 years.  Gawd I love this guy, jumps out of a destroyed SC and showed the same fire he had back in the day in a classic floracing interview....

What a shit show at Douche Bowl. 34 sprint cars and they roll the main out at 11:30. I watched for a couple of minutes on Friday and it looked like they had about 300 people in the stands. I wonder how they get anyone to show up. Haven't been there for years because of such poorly run programs and no passing. Did they have 5 cars passed cleanly in two nights.

As for Sammy he sure was spirited. Shit hole tracks create things like this because you have to do stupid moves to even try to pass. From the video I saw it looked like Sammy just went blowing in there and expected the sea to part for him. Like the great Karl Kinser once said.....you have a brake pedal too.

So that is how us old folks find true love.  Flip a Sprint Car and emerge pissed off.  At 69 I know what a post 65 body feels like.  A couple weeks ago the snow melted so I went out and pieced the sod back in where the guy plowing my neighbors driveway went in my ditch and tried to back out but had to return the next day with trailer and winch.  I slipped on the wet grass and wrecked my wrist and tweaked my neck and was toast for the rest of the week.  At 30 I would have jumped right back up and felt fine.  I wonder how Sammy feels this morning.  Oh, wait a minute, shame on me, he is immortal and does not age.

I have always been a Sammy fan but at this point I more of a fan of his good health and happy retirement.  He has nothing more to prove to me, he is one of the best ever.  I just hope that he knows when it's time.

They had much more than 300 people in the stands.   You gotta keep in mind that the stands there are probably 8000 or greater capacity.    That being said, all four of my gang left after the 2nd ASCS B main.  I noticed that we weren't the only ones leaving early throughout the night.   And we wonder why it's hard to attract new fans to the sport?

There are a few ways that it could have been avoided.   First, the ASCS format is too damn long with those qualifiers.    Two B mains is a bit much too.   Eliminate the boring ass qualifiers and run one B main!   One other thing is drop at least one class.   Four classes is too much given the already long ASCS format.   Run the two sprint car classes and one of the other boring ones.    The last thing is it would help if you start the damn program on time.

From what I'm hearing Devils Bowl has already been sold and they're just operating it a few more years until George Bush tollway comes through there.   That's strictly a rumor, but that's what I heard.    I'm hoping that Lanny Ross will build another track, maybe 3/8 mile, somewhere else around Dallas.   The heats always suck at Devils Bowl, but that's as much a product of winged racing as it is track size and configuration.   Hopefully if they build another one it'll be better.

I started this thread because I was impressed by how little Sammy has changed after all these years.  I've talked to him in the pits (choose your time/place carefully) and he's really a nice guy, but on the track its totally different.  40 years and he aint backing down, you have to be old to appreciate that..........lol

Not a Sammy fan other than his never give up attitude. That being said, it looked like the other driver came off top right into Sammy's line. That could have ended much worse than just two wrecked racecars.

The floracing entire show replay for DB is over 5 hours which is way too much. I watched a few minutes of this live last night but gave up pretty quick. As a contrast, the A main for the 410 sprints pushed off at 8:03 local time in Cali. They do seem to get their shows going in a timely manner out there.

51 years he said last night.  Love him or not, the fire that still burns inside him is fantastic. The fact is that he doesn't have anything to prove to anyone yet it feels like every time he goes on the track he feels that he can win.

When he puts the helmet on he's all in.

It looks to me like Sammy had more room underneath the guy.   Like someone else said, you're supposed to move out of his way because he's the great Sammy Swindell.

When I first read about this, I went and watched the video, not knowing which car was Sammy's. What I saw was that the car on the inside seemed to just plow into the car on the outside.

Yep, that's pretty much it.   Hate that the car got torn up given that it's one of our local cars.

To be fair, I don't know how many drivers out there are going to think they're in the wrong when giving an interview 5-10 minutes later without seeing any video.  The video I saw wasn't a very good angle to say who was in the wrong.  Never been a Sammy fan either by the way.

Hey Chris, great to hear from ya'.  Honestly I haven't made a post in this forum in weeks, hardly even looked.  This clown who won't name himself hates me as much as Sammy so I think I am in pretty good company.  Is it time to expose him?????  Nearing the end of my posting days, nice knowing y'all....

First - a couple of things.  It was COLD.   I know a lot of the folks around me left earlier beause they were so cold... so not many folks in the stands by then.  Yes - I agree - too many "support" classes... but each of those cars brings fans to the track.  SECOND - 2 big races rather close.  Less than 200 miles South the World of Outlaws were racing and less than 200 miles Northwest was a big POWRi midget race with the Keith Kunz cars there.  I personally know quite a few folks who went to one or another of these shows.  The Spring Nationals usually draw a big crowd and a lot of sprint cars.  This is also the first time I have ever seen a big "bump" going into corner #1.  Where the contact was made I am thinking that might have been a factor.  I am still not sure who was in the other car.  If it is who I think it was he has been racing for quite some time.   The first time I saw Sammy race he took out his Dad... so don't give me that "I'm a saint" bit.  I have seen Sammy take out a lot of drivers - and after he was a big name.  For me the straw was when he sent Dub May on a horrendous ride at Knoxville in hot laps.   I know drivers all think they are innocent - and maybe Sammy was this time.  It was a scary thing to watch.  Just saying.  I watched the video several times and still not sure.   Oh yes - in another thought - the reason the Devil's Bowl originally put the tires out on the inside of the corners was because Sammy was cutting through the infield to try to gain more positions.  Yes - I'm old.  I've seen a lot of racing but I do remember that night as well.   Now most tracks have the tires out there.  Sammy is a great driver and set up man.  I'll give you that but he is not always innocent.  Ever seen his antics at the Chili Bowl or at the Short Track Nationals?   Okay - blast me now.  Just saying what I have seen..
