Well, Macri won the URC main too. Took the lead with5 to go and checked out. Quite a night for him. Followed by Schott, Preston, Locke and Weller for the top 5. Not at all familiar with the URC cars but for Limiteds their lap times were just about identical with the 410s the last several laps. Is Port really that slick?

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome WingedStrawser and soon, his alter ego, Strawser. One half of the numbnut pair has chimed in, so his little brother should be right behind. Now mind you, neither were there so, there's that. Funny though, qualifying times were faster than that super fast 1/2 mile out the road. Last night's racing (I was there, as always) was identical to Selinsgrove (I was there too), which the twit brothers claim was an amazing race. TONS of passing in the feature, which is what you want, because it is called racing. Not hammer down, wet track, follow the leader.

Anyone who watched Port Royal last night would be lying if they said it was not by far the best surface and prep of the season. For most the year, the track has been extremely top dominant with the only real way to make passes being sliders. However, it was clear from the very beginning of the night that the track was different.
They did some work (shaved a good bit off the bottom) and the results showed. There was two lines all night, with a third at times prevelent. Dewease was making the bottom work late, and the top was it;s typcial fast. Also Reutzel was using the middle. At times, in both features, there was 3-wide battles in 3 and 4 and very exciting racing going on all through the pack.
I think you can ask many of drivers, but slower makes for better racing. It also puts more on the driver (car control and throttle) and not so much the motor. Reality is that if you can gas it and have track position, you can run well at Port Royal as any track with speed being a large factor. If you are willing to go up there and not stuff it in the wall, you have a chance.
I understand what the nickname is and it still matters to some degree. But I don't know why some insisnt on trashing the surface and such when the lap times are not blistering fast. The racing was excellent in both divisions last night. In pst weeks, I;ve seen on here people complaining about the needed use of sliders. Well that was not the case last night. Sure, it still is part of the race and the sport, but last night you saw three distinct grooves and a bottom that was really good, and yet all we wnat to talk about is the lap times?
Come on guys. What do you really want? A reason to complain or a reason to enjoy...because it seems to me that you're not happy if you don;t have something to be unhappy about. And before you go comparing apples to oranges in terms of surfaces across the state...the racing all week has been excellent. One race was a bit of a letdown to me, and that was the second Lincoln show. But across the board, this has been the best PA Speedweek in recent memory and there is nothing there to be upset about

Port last night was awesome from start to finish. Heats were great by winged sprint standards and the A main (which usually sucks when heats are good) was also very good.

No offense, but Lincoln has had 2 great shows all season and has more shows in then any other facility in PA. And I can tell you with firsthand knoowlege, one of those great shows was absolute luck as things didn;t go as planned in terms of track prep and it ended up working out.
With that being said, it doesn;t really matter. Fans keep coming, drivers keep racing and tracks are still in business...which frankly is a great thing because we were looking at the possibility of nothing a month ago. I don't know why fans who claim to love the sport so much conistantly want to to compare, put down and belittle the product they "love" so much.

I won't go back and revisit my post telling you that I have family ties to the track with both drivers and track officials, because like Strawser, you only hear what you say, lol. Have fun at Hagerstown. At Port I sit top row, section K reserved seats so not far from you. We'll meet, I'm sure. I'll just look for the guy in the pit bleachers cuddling up to Strawser. Oh wait, he doesn't go either.

No complaints from me. The reconfiguration of the bottom groove definitely made a difference. I figured Steve would figure it out. He's not one to sit on his hands. If something can be made better, he'll work at it until it's fixed. Speedweek has been incredible so far. The torch was lit at the opener at Williams Grove and every track down the line has carried it well. There hasn't been a bad race yet. Some better than others which is always the case but it's been a great week.

I haven't been to Port since last summer, but watching on PPV reminded me of one thing: What a beautiful view from front stretch bleachers! :)
Cameraman must have been all the way up top, great panorama
I've said this before, but drive from Harrisburg area is really pretty, especially if you take the back roads...
Maybe I should start a thread on most scenic tracks?

I would pay good money to see this but I would have to get on a plane to be able to see it in person. Hopefully there will be a few cell phone cameras rolling if it ever happens :-).

Thats funny....
I don't know much about track prep at all, but I can tell if the race is good ...
Seems to me short tracks are usually more competitive than big ones...
