Thomas Heats Up HOT ‘Bandits Victory Lane; Series Summer Break Underway!
Elm Mott, TX (07/13/19) by DarinShort.com. The 360C.I. NCRA Sprint Car Bandits® (SCB) series invaded the 1/4 mile 'bullring' oval of Heart O' Texas Speedway (HOT) on Waco on Friday, July 12th with the running of the “MDA Muscling in the Dirt” night, and when the final checkers waved, Marcus Thomas would take the win with a spot-on wing dance that commemorated the moment. It would also become Thomas’s 4th Series victory of 2019. Click https://youtu.be/9-RqKX0baaA for a video clip of the feature racing action.
The night would start out with three www.KoolTrikes.com heat races that saw the D&W Towing and Recovery #12W of Dale Wester earning the www.FixYourGenerator.com Top Qualifier Award, and collecting $100 for his efforts. Special thanks to Fred Summers of www.FixYourGenerator.com for his continued support of the Sprint Car Bandits series.
The feature event would fire off sans Chance McCrary (engine) and Jeb Sessums (drivetrain) with a 4-wide salute to the large appreciative HOT crowd. It also happened to be a very pleasant night at the races with unseasonably comfortable conditions in the mid-80’s. You could also see in the far distance the lightning from Hurricane Barry dancing along the eastern horizon.
From his outside front row starting spot, Marcus Thomas would shoot out to an early lead in the 25-lapper, with Jeff Emerson, Dale Wester and Junior Jenkins in tow. A quick caution would restart the field in Delaware format, when points leader Will Eggimann would be sent backwards into oncoming traffic when the green flag waved. Three other cars would be collected that saw light damage, but enough to force three cars out of the event.
When the race resumed, Thomas and Emerson pulled away from the field with Wester and Dalton Stevens putting on a great side-by-side battle for third. Emerson caught Thomas in heavy lapped traffic mid-way through the feature but Thomas would quickly make his way by those cars to remain at the point.
Another quick caution period saw the racing surface quickly rubbering up across the middle, when the Wester/Stevens side-by-side battle would result in contact with Stevens pancaking the backstretch wall and sliding to a stop outside the corner three entrance. The hard charging Wester would also drop out during the caution flag, putting an end to his solid run.
This would set up a shootout for the final four laps, when last week’s SCB winner Claud Estes III would emerge into second from his 5th place starting position to give Marcus Thomas a run for his money. Estes would close within a bumper of Thomas at one point, then Thomas was able to pull away by a 10-car length lead at the checkers. Emerson would finish in an impressive third place – in what was his first-ever Sprint Car Bandits series event. Jeremy Jonas and Daniel Estes would earn their best-ever SCB feature finishes by finishing in 4th and 5th, respectively. The balance of finishing order is posted below.
In light of the fact that 2019 is the ‘DARE TO BE DIFFERENT’ tour for the Sprint Car Bandits series, we intentionally planned a Summer Break this season so teams and fans can take in any of a number of huge events up north – without the fear of missing any of the action here.
The SCB will resume racing action in two months, with the fall events line-up to be posted in a month or so from now. Besides the ‘Month of Money’ events slated across the Midwest, this Summer Break will also allow for the heat of the summer to take its course, so when we resume Series action, it will take place during much more suitable racing conditions – for both fans and racing surfaces. We’re excited about this new twist to our schedule, as the season is long in Texas, and it gives everyone a chance to retool, go on vacations or check out other racing events – whether near, or far.
Thanks again to the great crowds that have attended Sprint Car Bandits events this season across the Metroplex region, the strong support of 77 different drivers, our sponsors, series workers, track workers & officials – and we look forward to seeing you all again after our Summer Break when racing action fires back up later in September!
In the meantime, if you’d like to get your brand new Fierce 15 driver t-shirts, the new online store at www.SprintCarBandits.com is open and orders get shipped regularly. Reminder, that proceeds from Fierce 15 driver apparel benefits each individual driver that is a part of the program, so please show your support by grabbing one when you can...and your support will help drivers better funded throughout the season.
