Time for my once in a decade post....

Anybody know of any camping somewhat close to Jackson Motorplex for the Jackson Nationals?  The KOA looks booked.  As much as I would like to be at the track and support them, $140 for three nights with no hookups seems a little steep.  Hopefully the grass by the little track has filled in... last year we were parked in a mudhole.

Whodat: What Ford97 said X 2.

There's nothing wrong with the city of Jackson at all. The river bisecting the town is cool, along with the road that runs along it going south towards Iowa (which is right near the track....just head towards the bridge and hang a left and follow the road for a few miles, it's pretty enjoyable drive).

But after growing up in Spirit Lake ( which is in the middle of the Iowa Great Lakes), is 19 miles SW from Jackson on the same Hwy 71, there's literally unlimited fun to be had there.

And there's all types of options for camping, lodging; etc. depending on the experience you're wanting to have. That is the real key. You can stay there pretty cheap or spend a good chunk of money - but still access all the fun of the area:

You can rent a fun lakeside cabin, a house if you have a group, stay at a decent hotel, get a camping spot at a multitude of locations. Again, it depends on the creature comforts you want/don't want, access to quality restaurants, water skiing, paddle boating, swimming, jet skiing, amusement park, go karts, putt-putt golf, bike trails, salt water taffy, carameled apples, frozen chocolate dipped bananas, nutty bars, great lakeside cocktail/bar food locations...truly endless family fun.

When I was at Harris, we took our team there during the Jackson Nationals (when it had several types of divisions racing it) and of course got kicked out of about every kart track there due to 'rough driving'...I ran Kelly Shryock clean but I leaned on him pretty good a few times and it got us in trouble...but it sure made for fun memories.

So if it's memories you're going after, lots to be made during the day at the Lakes and at night at one of the most fun tracks out there in Jackson.  :)

Jackson County Parks are very nice and affordable.  Anderson, Robertson and Brown..  Anderson being relatively new on the shores of Pearl Lake.  Brown is in between Pearl and Loon..  and Robertson being the oldest, (but updated) and the most scenic and hard to get into.
