Yesterday a reporter from ABC27 posed the question to the governor why is Nascar allowed to race in yellow but under a previously ruling, race tracks were considered entertainment and not allowed to race in a county designated yellow. That is clearly a reference to the ruling about Selinsgrove. The governor's office release a statement yesterday saying the DOH is working with professional sports leagues to determine how and when professional sports may resume. They went on to say the state is still having ongoing discussions with professional and semiprofessional teams and industries including Nascar. When I read this, my first thought was the governor's office did not put dirt track racing in the professional or semiprofessional category. It isn't "important" or "professional" enough to operate in yellow unlike these other organizations. Maybe I'm wrong but it's how I took it. I believe someone needs to educate our good governor of the economic impact dirt racing has in our Commonwealth and how many people derive their income either fully or in part from racing. I bet it's far more than he would ever imagine. It's not simply about the tracks it is also about the teams. As I said in a prior post, these teams make money, spend money and pay taxes. They are a business and a much larger one than our governor realizes. No disrespect to any other division, but we aren't talking about hobby divisions. When asked about it in today's briefing, in typical politician fashion he talked for about a minute without actually saying anything substantive.  I believe a knee jerk decision was made about an industry he knows very little about.

Good post. Thanks. I also believe that people who don't reside or have a business in PA shouldn't have much of a say in the way our state is run.

So, you heard from people from hospitals and doctors-----and their videos were taken down off the internet right away.  Does this mean you "heard" means you watched a youtube video?  That's your research and open mind?

I have talked to actual doctors and nurses I know.  NONE of them are blowing this off as they are in the examples you're referencing.  Some of these doctors and nurses I know are in hot spots (like Detroit and New York City) and some are in quiet areas (like rural Illinois).  The ones in hot spots tell me we should be very thankful we are not in a hot spot.  The ones in the quiet areas are nervous about becoming the next hot spot.  We just had our first death 2 days ago.  Numbers are starting to pick up quite quickly and I'm nervous we are going to explode in cases because the spike in cases is going to coincide with the lifting of restrictions.  I know a lot of people who work for our rural hospital and they are very, very nervous right now.  We have not had very much transmission yet and it is a matter of time before we get an outbreak---especially with all of the idiots in our area blowing this off.

If you're watching doctors and nurses on Youtube, understand that these are doctors and nurses you don't want practicing medicine on you.

The governor of PA said we are QUARANTINED, so we don't have anything else to do.

Your struggling here.   There is over 90K dead and that is with a semi shutdown and zero national plan and misplaced division instead of uniting the states. It has not "just dissappeared".   If no shutdown by governors (rep or dem) it would be way worse.  NY was preparing for the worst hoping for the best.  The refrigerator trucks were real! The deaths are real.  Did the doctors you spoke to work in any hotspots?  I highly doubt it.  If there was leadership and a national plan from the WH you would have been attending races for maybe a few weeks already.  You are just not getting it.  Until vaccine or cure all this is not going away.  If it does go away, its likely coming back.  The situation is also compounded with our litigious society.  It sucks but that is reality.

As with all Dems, it's about big money.  You can bet your bottom dollar that the pressure is on from big corporations that are a part of Nascar.  Grease the ol' palms and you can race.  Alot of money goes into Nascar and he's feeling some pressure from somewhere.

Oh, the Republicans are different???

Your use of the words two "open mind" actually got me laughing.   You are so typical of the narrow minded on both sides of the spectrum.  One side, everything is Trump's fault and on other side, nothing is his fault.

I think Selinsgrove and other tracks should be reopened in Pa and elsewhere.  The drivers, crews, fans, ticket takers, concession workers, medics all can choose to go to the races or not.

I don't think that COVID is Trump's fault. I don't think its China's fault either

I just don't think his response has been good, at all

I try not to rant about it on HH, tho. I will respond to others' comments, but wish people would stop politicizing this. Its a medical issue

You nailed it 100%.

My parents spoke with a friend of theirs who is a doctor in Michigan.  (by the way, my parents think this is all overblown)  Out of room for bodies a few weeks ago.  Anyone can say "they would have died anyways" or "no different than flu" but he said they have never, ever, run out of room for bodies.  He said it's getting better, but if we would have left this thing to spread un-mitigated, it would have been anarchy and disaster in his area.  And, he said every urban area would have been exactly the same.

It was all funny memes and "hoax" talk in my county too----until someone died that a bunch of people knew.  Now, it's suddenly much more quiet.  ???

We are not out of the woods on this when things "open up."

But I think we can also agree that the responses by the NY and NJ governors were terrible.

1) not closing the parks until it was too late

2) not cleaning the subways until it was FAR too late

3) not protecting the most vulnerable to the disease, folks in nursing homes

SO I think you can also understand the frustration of many of those not in the hotspots who are affected terribly by this mass shutdown which is a one size fits all scenario instead of a measured response that is needed.

People in the rest of the country should not be penalized by the mistakes of governors in states they don't even visit let alone live.

A lot of people will never let themselves come to the realization of how things are unless it directly effects them. We see have seen it all across history people against stem cell research until they or a spouse gets alzheimers then suddenly they have a change of heart, people against that have bad habits then they get cancer directly because of it and then they suddenly have a change of a heart. Quite a few people went public at the beginning of this stating this whole thing was a hoax and we didn't need to take any precautions and they ended up getting it and some dying from it. This whole thing has kind of reminded me of and episode from the old Twilight Zone tv show when "aliens" cut electricity to a town and everyone in the town basically went mad and ended up against each other. At the end of the show it shows the two aliens standing there and one goes "you see, its just that simple. All you have to do to them is turn off their electricity and they will destroy themselves." In this case, all you have to do is take people's ability to sit down in a restuarant (can still order from one) sit inside a bar (can still buy beer), wear a mask to a store (can still go to a lot stores and shop or buy online), or take a few entertainment options away for a very short period of time in retrospect, and everyone just goes insane. Some of it is entertaining though seeing all the people who are still employed, healthy, and have had minimal changes other than their precious entertainment options whine and cry while most people who are now temporary unemployed because of this or have covid 19 basically make the best out of bad situations.

Twilight Zone?  You're even cooler than I thought Nick!   Classics!

I really never thought I would see people turn on each other so quickly in 8 weeks time.  I can't wait to see how society holds itself together in the fall/winter when we go through this all again.

Monsters on Maple Street. No one wants to be like Charlie.

"They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find, and its themselves. They're world is full of Maple Streets, and we'll go from one to the other and let them destroy themselves."

"Prejudices can kill. And a thoughtless frightened search for a scapegoat has a fallout, all of its own. And the pity of it is, that these things cannot be confined, to the Twilight Zone."
