I don't normally respond to "opinion" topics, but I feel compelled to here. I've been watching racing for just under 40 years. Kyle Larson is one of the four most talented RACE drivers (drivers that can win in any type of car) that I've ever seen. The other three are Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney, and Billy Pauch, and none of them were nearly as successful at the age of 20. Just my two cents.

Just to put this in perspective he hasn't escaped notice from NASCAR and pre recession he'd probably have already be racing trucks or Nationwide. Anything could happen in five or ten years. I can picture him a few years down the road when he's running Cup races and signed onto a contract that won't let him within 100 yards of a Sprint Car. As happens with a lot of them any reference to dirt track racing is something along the lines of "I'm out here having fun relaxing" and makes dirt to be a secondary form of racing. Whether he remembers where he came from and gives anything back to dirt racing or not remains to be seen. He'll probably move up before I ever see him run a race so aside from the internet chatter he's pretty much off the radar of many of us. ;)

I just wish we could watch him run the full 2013 Outlaw schedule with an experienced team that has race notes for all tracks / setups etc. Then we could truly see where he stands against the best.

i seem to remember kyle saying that if he could make it in nascar he wanted to be able to have a sprint car team.

seems like he is looking to follow the tony and kasey models.

as far as remembering where he came from, as long as he remembers his mom he will be fine. lol.

to indy and beyond!!

Unfortunately I never got to see A.J. race. (Or Parnelli Jones, for that matter. . .)

I guess there is some advantage to being old after all.

Yes, he did say that. I think it was in victory lane at the 4-Crown.

He's running the full Nascar East schedule and is sitting 2nd in points with a win, and is easily in the lead for rookie of the year. He also ran the Camping World Truck race at Kentucky, started 36th after an engine change, finished 10th in his first ever start. Even Michael Waltrip was talking about him. I remember, I think it was Dave Bergren who asked him in post-race interviews, "do you even have a driver's license?" and Kyle said, "yeah I have a driver's license, I'm almost 20. I know I look like I'm 12."

The 360 Nats aren't really a blemish, he ran great in night one, pulled off because of a front wing. I don't believe he ever planned to run the whole thing because the K&N race was already scheduled. I may be totally wrong on that, but leaving a dirt sprint car to go place 2nd in the K&N deal is impressive in itself. How many drivers can go from open wheel to fendered, or dirt to asphalt so seamlessly? I really don't know of many.

I have been involved in racing since the age 4, I have watch racers of all forms motor cycles, go carts, drag, sprints wing and nowing stock cars, you name it. Every 20 years or so you see a racer that just stands out. When Kyle was running Outlaw carts at Cycleland you could see this talent then he went to sprints and that really open my eyes. I love watching anyone who can wheel a 4 wheel 2 wheel around a track. He will win, he will loose, I don't care because Iv'e seen one of the best. I remember sitting buy some people when Kinser was winning everything and they started booing him. I asked why you would boo a guy that is making history right in front of them and would probably be the guy with the most wins in sprintcar history. The answer was, I never thought of that. So people enjoy it, there will be more talent to come.

PS Johnny well said, I wish people would just enjoy the racing and the show they put on no matter who wins or is lucky. All this BS on here sounds like NFL NBA BS.

you said you would be impressed if he made the A main.

are you still willing to stand by that statement?

458 with the new format as I understand it is not a lock for the A. He might have to pass a couple more cars to make the A.

He timed just good enough to get decent points and just bad enough to fall into a transfer spot out of the heat race. He timed bad enough and enough cars in front of him failed to transfer that he made the feature invert and started near the front. A car dropped out and he passed one car on his way to the win on a locked down heavy track.

He capitalized on a lot of goof luck of his own and bad luck of others.

That said, I'm impressed with what he's done in the past week and he likely won't be racing on dirt for long.

I just don't think he's God like some on here are making him out to be.

i never said he was in the main. i never said he was a lock for the main. i only asked if you would stand by your statement of being impressed if he made the A main.

you are playing obstinate right up to the bitter end.

by the way....he's in the show now.

I already said I'm impressed.

What else do you want? Fall down on my knees and worship at the alter?

He capitalized on a whole lot of luck, even more bad luck for others last night.

Good job.

Lets see...

Run a whole outlaw schedule and make a couple hundred grand or make that much off just your T-shirt sales in the big leagues.

I wish Kyle all the best and I will cheer for him and any other driver that came off dirt and made it to the top in his sport. Moving to cars and trucks is the only path left to this latest crop of talented kids.

California should be very very proud of him...

So the Nationals don't count?

Next thing will be "But he can't guard Lebron James"

Stuff like this is just annoying to see. I'm not anti-Larson by any means and think the kid is incredibly talented, but 3 for 3 is just wrong. 360 Nationals, Capitani Classic, and FRC Winged. He's 3 for 6 (7 if you count his 360 nationals prelim night). There's absolutely zero reason to try to skew the numbers, winning three of six or seven is impressive nonetheless given the competition.

I always thought the week started on Monday. OK, I forgot about the FRC, shoulda said 3 for 4. That's still an incredible week by most accounts. I'm not pro or anti Larson but what he's done at his age is impressive, even to a Posse fan.

For those of us who get to see him race know how good he is, so glad the Nor Cal drivers are showing what they can do, Jonathan Allard, Tim Kaeding and Jason Meyers, can't wait for the west coast swing flying down from Alaska for all the races in WA. OR. and CA and going home to my home track in Chico
