I'm guessing that it would suck to go in the ditch with one in rural Minnesota on a -25 degree night. Matter of fact, that sucks in just about any vehicle and expecially one that heats on battery power. Better load the trunk with firewood.
On a more serious note what if someone suggested that we go to 23 second laps, roll bars behind the drivers head, skinny tires and no wings? Blasphemy some would say and most of today's speed freaks (aka 410 or else crowd) would refuse to watch them but that is exactly where this all started for me 61 years ago. If I'm lucky I'll have another 10 or 15 so Sprint Cars are likely to have V8's for the remainder of my time on this rock. Come to think of it I saw a few Offys and Ranger aircraft engines race in my younger days. As they say "the only constant is change".

23 second laps???? sounds like A main at the grove.... sorry, couldn't resist, proceed on with the debate of what will happen, wheather or not we are alive to see it, is the only question.

Yesterday: GM unveils Silverado with 400 mile range.

My 20 year old truck can get 400 miles to the tank full during interstate driving and it cost me 75-80 dolllars. How much would a charge for an electic vehicle cost to cover that 400 miles? I imagine steep mountains can drain a battery pretty quickly reducing miles per charge similar to losing miles per gallon, How long does it take to get a full charge with an EV and if its a short charging period will the charge last or fade easily? I can fill my truck in ten minutes and be on my way. I doubt I'll ever have an EV but you never know, the more I read about them the more interesing they are. Mabye a Tesla but never a prius

Yup, that ditch is no more friendly than a clogged freeway, although at least your car isn't in the way when you abandon it to walk for help.
I've been going to the races for nearly 50 years and I do miss those "old" days as well. I'm not sure the competition and racing was better or worse back then, but the passing time makes those days seem better. I appreciate the advances in safety that have come along in those years and we must continue to do more. The 23 second lap wasn't bad when everyone was going the same speed. Maybe it just seems fast when you are 10 years old.
I agree wiht egras. Electric cars are coming. Maybe it will be a development past electric cars. Who knows what and when at this point. And if electrics are the norm, then we will be racing electrics. People that like to race will race whatever is at hand and they will enjoy it. Shane Carson or Andy Hillenberg told a story about racing live crabs one night at someone's house after a WoO race. All the guys (Kinser, etc) are down on their knees, yelling at their crab to run faster. And so it will be with electrics. If they can figure out a way to pipe in noise and the smell of methanol and oil burning.....

In answer to your question, it costs about 4 cents per mile (average driving) to charge or $16 per 400 miles. And yes, there are obstacles to overcome as far as charging time goes, but they will be overcome in time. Don't rush out and by your electric Silverado right now unless it's practical for you to let it charge for hours. Once it gets to 1000 miles on a 2 hour charge, I might start to consider it. (and it will get there)

ah yes, more evidence of "dipshittery." Okay, let's put electricity up 50%. Now it's 6 cents per mile. Make you happy? This is why we can't have nice things.

Friend just recently got his brand spanking new F-250 4 wheel drive platinum edition truck. It's a hybrid. In reverse it's powered fully by electric. He is getting 27 mpg. All for the price north of 90k. So, you can have all the bells and whistles you just have to reach deep into that piggy bank to get it. On a trip down thru Georgia, at a Parkers gas station, they have lined up all these power stations to plug your electric vehicles in. First time I ever witnessed this. Driving by there was 4 tesla's sitting there getting there power on. Are they charged a fee for plugging in ???

The charging model is also changing. The first charging stations were free and were normally at large institutions. (Goverment, banks, large shopping centers, schools, etc) There is now a model for charging stations to be a pay as you go subscription service. There will be an app on your phone that you use to pay for charging your car. Finally, you will see Tesla dedicated charging stations. When Tesla first started selling vehicles, those dedicated charging stations were free to use. However, for models being sold now, you have to pay to use the Tesla charging stations. As the model continues to mature, most people expect all chargers to move to a subscription service.
If you saw a bank of chargers at a gas station, I would be willing to bet an adult beverage that they were on some sort of subscription service or were dedicated Tesla charging stations.
If you are interested in any of this, with a couple quick Google searches, you can find all kinds of information. #IWorkforGM

"Everything is up 15 to 35 percent across the board from a year ago"...............................define "everything." I know that "you know who" isn't helping, but holy crap would we be in some serious @#$t if everything was actually up 15-35%!!! Are you speaking energy, or "everything?" If you're speaking everything, inflation for everything was about 6.8% for 2021-----which is terrible, but not 15-35%. 15-35% would have already caused a stock market crash and we'd be at the start of a depression. Are you talking energy? Electricity was up 6.5% nationwide year over year from 2020-2021. My bill did not change which must mean some others had bigger increases to arrive at that average.
If you want to start a sentence with "everything" you should mean everything. Otherwise, your statement is false by the second word.
By the way "you know who's" policies have not even begun to have an effect on the gas prices. I believe his policies will have an effect, but you're giving him way too much credit for his policy to be effecting the flow of fuel in the matter of a few short months. The fuel price is what it would have been no matter what. Give his ideas a few more years before you draw a conclusion. (it's likely not going to be good, but he doesn't have the power to change the prices that quickly----he's far from God)

I used to worry about the future and actually feel my opinion might affect it. Now I realize that I should just enjoy the moment and make memories while we can. It will be what it is. Not saying we cant discuss it, no harm in that.

One thing about living a long time is that you have alot of different things to compare. I saw my first race about 75 yrs ago. AAA always raced once a year at Cedar Rapis. We got to see alot of Indy car drivers Troy Ruttman won the Indy 500 and 5 weeks later he was at Cedar Rapis with guys like J. Parson Duane Carter and many others. When IMCA came to town we got to see a wide variety of engines. GMC 6 bangers, Ranger aircraft, supercharged midget engine, Miller, FH fords. Nothing like an enclosed grandstand when they drop the green flag and you hear the engine vibration sound. Was it better then, I do not know. How do you compare apples and grapes. Then a 25 sec lap was fast, now a 15 sec lap is fast.
