Were the cars more racy or was it the haves blowing by the have nots? hmmm? Your last sentence says it all. Donny won the super bowl of sprint car racing last year from what 20-something starting position?
|
You want to talk about the "haves" and "have nots"????? That's laughable!!! Just look at the money behind the drivers at the top! Why, they could own NASCAR cars....lol! And from 21st yes....in 50 laps with a "time-out"

You all think Donny wins just because he starts on the front row? Two years ago I watched Schatz win the B main, start 21st in the A and park his ass in victory lane. What was the farthest back Steve won the nationals, 13th or 14th I believe? We don't even know if Schatz is in his prime yet because every year he just keeps getting better and impresses more than the year before. And also I feel sorry for you "Possee" fans that say time after time again how the talent in the Outlaws is down so much this year, check the top 5 finishers in the Nationals this year. Its comical that any comparision that might slight Donny is not a valid one. Any comparision that favors him is golden and the rule, correct?
If you're as up to speed in your knowledge as your want us to believe, then would recognize that winning the Nationals from 21st is historical, but it was also in a 50 lap race not 30, which was changed for the 50th annual. I beleive at the pit stop that year he won from 21st he was roughly 4th around the lap 30 window. So, if you're going to make comparisions make like kind comaprisions.
Yes, Steve won from 14th in '95 in a 30 lapper. Steve also came from the C to 5 one year in the mid-2000's in a 30 lap affair. Maybe the most impressive runs I've seen over the years have been Hodnett from teh C to 5th, Wolfgang from C to 5th and may have won if it had been a 50 lapper, Doty had a great run to from the C. Actually, Jeff Swindell came the closest to winning it from teh B when he was second running the 7tw car one year to Steve in the 30 lapper.

Actually Jeff Swindell came through more of the alphabet then just the B, if you were up to speed in your knowledge.

It might also be that he knew he had 50 laps and took some time. He took the lead on lap 41.
In 2011, he came from 13th in less than 15 laps to lead.

Wolfgang also came from the D to finish 5th in the A Main....1990....his other from the C to 5th was in 1988.....he won it all in 1989.....a three year span in which he was definately strong enough to have won 3 in a row....but alas....trouble beyond his control relegated him to put on a couple of the best charges ever seen at the Nationals.

One more thing about Schatz and todays WoO drivers.....How well would they run in the daytime? Kinser, Wolfgang, Sammy and the rest had to run plenty of daytime shows back in the '80's and '90's.
