Great Racing on a Good Track but getting out of the Track at 12:30 is a little late. I wish they could have moved the show along a little there were allot of unnessary delays!
I still have 4 Chili Bowl Tickets for sale on my WebSite under MISC

I was home at 1:20 and it is an hour and a half drive for me to get home. Plus I visited with friends for a while before leaving.

Everyone who says the Friday format is not fair for what ever reason, please tell me what in life IS FAIR?
|
What is fair? Race your way in on your qualifying night, or try again next year. There is nothing fair about a driver being able to not turn a lap on Wednesday or Thursday, then show up on Friday and get in the "A" against a "diluted" field.

It works for the Chili Bowl...
|
Uh. The chili bowl added another night because every year they kept setting a new record for entries and the races were ending way after midnight each qualifying night. If the chili bowl had less than 100 entries they would get rid of a night.

So it is FAIR for one guy to time trial first on a sunny 90 degree evening and one to go out 50th? Should we do away with B mains? Guys that can't transfer through their heat get a second chance in the B against a diluted field! So it's FAIR if you get in an accident one lap before half way you get time to fix your car but if it happens one lap after halfway you do not? Steve Kinser could not make the A on Friday against the "diluted" field. Nor could Chad Kemenah, Lasoski, Rahmer, Kerry Madsen, Tyler Walker or the Wild Child.

If I remember correct, the Chili Bowl went to three nights right around 100 entries...33 cars is a good amount for a TT race, any more and the playing field isn't as level and for the most part, your night is dependent on the TT draw. If you want to see the level of racing you saw on Friday, and not penalize the guys who raced their ass off against the WHOLE field, go back to the old format, trim $50k out of the Saturday purse and pay the Friday night winner $40k or so to win....

What a great 4 nights of racing! Kudos to Knoxville, the "new" Friday format was for the most part a huge improvement. I'm sure they will tweak it a little for next year. Hopefully they keep it pretty much the same. It is the greatest 4 nights of racing every year.

I must say I LOVED the new Friday night format of the Knoxville Nationals...It really added a ton of intensity from the drivers and thrills for the fans..As a broadcaster I enjoyed calling the races on KNIA/KRLS because every race was important and intense with big implications...I know there's going to be people that just feel they have to be negative....but how can you HONESTLY say that didn't improve the Knoxville Nationals? It was AWESOME!!! Sure it hurt Danny Lasoski(who probably hates it right now) but Steve Kinser starts 15th in the B instead of mid pack in the C where he would've been before, Dale Blaney is now in the A and would have been dead last in points and at best started 11th in the C...so it did what it was supposed to because for just one example, Dale Blaney would've had almost no chance to win the Nationals in the previous format and obviously he is a good enough driver with good enough equipment to get it done....so fans would've lost because they didn't get to see a driver of his caliber race the big race ... Toby Kruse you had a great vision and it came true tonight.....GREAT JOB Toby Kruse!!! I seriously can't wait for Saturday's show....I wish the Nationals would never end!!! Just my opinion as a fan/broadcaster who loved what he saw

I also thought friday was great. I do not understand why some people do not like it. The format of requalifying has been used for years by the traveling late model stock cars. Friday night now meanes something. With car count down to about 100 they had to do something. I doubt if car count will ever be 130 like it used to.

My recollection was that it changed somewhere around 140-150.....regardless...Kville wont switch to a three qualifier night because they think fans will then pick and choose to only go on the night of their "favorite" driver. and it would also take away the "World Challenge". No way anyone participates in this race on a qualifier night....and most certainly not before the B and A mains are completed on Saturday. and running it after the A on Saturday isnt an option. this race brings quite alot of attention and $$ (and i dont mean ticket sales) to the nationals.
As for the "Fair" comments.... every driver interviewed pre nationals and all week long tells ya that it takes LUCK to win the nationals. Always has and always will. having a mulligan friday takes that away. the only LUCK Blaney had was he was LUCKY they changed the format. I think you earn your spot at in the A and the front part of the B on your qualifying night. and the best you can do is mid B on saturday. fill the last half of the B. it is improved over the old system as the best you could have done was 11th in the C. and it isnt like anyone already in the front half of the B is going to give up their spot after the Dude demonstrated that is a bonehead move.

Was the crowd last night better then the Friday night attendance has been for the last 10-15 years? Sounds like the format change for Friday was a big improvement.

today we have no idea how many people are in suites watching race. Also on w-t-f we have no idea how many people subscribed to live broadcast. Track gets money from both.

If it wasn't for the fluke flat tire, Danny would have been the only one to take ADVANTAGE of the new format and been in the A for Saturday night. I would bet the farm on Lasoski doing the same thing again if given the opportunity. Direct quote from Lasoski, "I didn't come here to start 10th in the B. The main goal is to win the A on Saturday. To win it, you have to be in it. In this business you do not get do overs. If they are giving me one, I'm going to take it."
Lasoski was in 6th (started 10th) and on the move when the tire went down in the A Friday night. Even if for some reason he doesn't advance anymore and ends up staying where he was at he would of started 12th in the B instead of 10th (which is what he would of been locked in at). Really not much of a difference. Ask Sammy how it worked out for him not taking the opportunity. I was really surprised more drivers didn't. If you were locked in to the first 3 rows of the B I could maybe see staying where you are at. With a loaded B feature like you get in the Nationals, starting any further back than that makes it tough to move forward. Look at the B feature for the past ten years or so and see where the top 4 started at. I bet there are very few tranfers from the B that came from anything but the first 3 rows.

I like all arguments but Blaney earned and deserved his spot in the A main right? Wasn't a mulligan completely he drew almost last on Friday which is huge disadvantage and overcame is why i think he deserved it. I like the new format cuz of how much pts qualifying is worth if you have one problem in those two laps your week is shot not no more. i love it !! imo Racing is for the fans we racers get that confused sometimes. My suggestions would be another 5- 10 -20 grand for the hardchargers maybe 20 is high but something to the top 3 passers of the amain. i kind thought a couple racers didnt race as hard as they did qualifying nights or the b main transfers lets help them believe there is more than just making it!! Great job Mr Kruse and officials and exp. Track prep Well done Dunkins pretty much did it for like 10 nights straight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also was surprised there was only one gambler for the 4 A main position up for grabs..

I loved the Friday night of racing, but after thinking about it maybe those 4 guys should start 21th-24th and let the guys on Saturday try for 17th-20th..

The new format made for some GREAT racing!! No doubt about that.
The only thing Im not quite excited about is how a guy can run ZERO laps on his qualifying night and start 19th in the A on Sat. Nothing against blaney, he was fast and raced hard...just seems to give a big middle finger to everyone that actually qualified.

my thoughts exactly!!!!!!!!

with the old format Brooke Tatnell would of started the b on the front row, instead he started back in 8th, with cars who basically sucked on their qualifying nite going straight into the a, ie blaney , darrah
i would of bet money Brooke and Tim Shaffer would be at least $9500 better off with the old format
