Are you sure about that? Just this year, I can think of 4 tracks where he hasn't won........Spencer, IA, Oskaloosa, IA, Tulare, CA, Princton, MN. Correct me if I am wrong.
Excluding Australia, how many different tracks has he raced at over the last few years? For the most part, he races the same 3 tracks every weekend.
Don't get me wrong, he is a very good racer. Take away his Grand Forks wins, where he races against mostly 360's, and he still probably has 12-15 wins. Still a great year, but my vote goes to Rahmer, who races against much stiffer competition.
|
Dobmeier has not won at Cedar Lake either. He ran the Richert Memorial this fall and did not even qualify. So the Dobmeier faitful can not use the "took him out" excuse like at Oskaloosa.
Mark's a great driver, but not as great as some make him out to be in my opinion. However, he is fun to watch.

Only because Rahmer gets penalized for heading out to Knoxville each year where he usually kicks Dobmeier's ass.
How come Dobmeier struggles so much at home when good cars are in town?

To settle this argument....All three were in the C Main at the 2008 Nationals. Smith came in third, one spot out of the transfer spot. Mark came in fourth and Freddie came in eighth. Therefore, in head to head to head competition, Danny Smith was the best. End of discussion...

Somehow I don't think Knoxville Nationals C-Main finishing order is a very good barometer...lol. If you simply go by that, all three suck and none of them should make this year's poll...lol.

were you even there? because he DID qualify and not only that he was QUICK TIME. in his heat he started 6th and took 5th on a track that had 1 groove and no passing. almost all of those that qualified towards the front had issues getting to a transfer spot due to the track conditions. in the trophy dash he broke a lifter, ending his night.
sure he didn't make the A-main but it was due to mechanical issues not because he's overrated. he ran by far the quickest lap of the night and you say he didn't qualify? you are sorely mistaken and just looking for excuses to call him overrrated. that was a shitty night of racing anyways. cold, windy, and rainy. i'm actually glad mark didn't make the A because i would have had to sit and wait for the 2 hour rain delayed and shortened A main. it was much better drinking beer with him and the crew in the pits.

Yeah I was there and yeah he did set quicktime and yeah he did break. Oh....and yeah he did not qualify then too. If he did not make the call for the A-main because of mechanical issues, I guess it is maybe a DNS then instead of a DNQ. However, according to the results I looked up from that race on Cedar Lake's website, they list the finishing order of 22 cars in the A-main. IRA typically starts 22 cars, not 24. In 22nd position is Joe Symoens, not Mark Dobmeier. So, my comment about Mark not qualifying for the A-main is actually correct per the IRA's finishing order.
I did not say he didn't make the A-main because he is overrated. If I really disliked the guy I would have bashed him. I gave him credit of being a good driver and that he's fun to watch. I simply stated he did not win at CLS that night, the only night he ran there in 2008. That was in reply to the other post about Mark winning at every track he raced at. To my knowledge he has never won at CLS. Maybe next year.
You're glad he did not race the A because you would have had to wait for the 2 hour rain delay and instead drank beer with him and the crew in the pits? Are you saying during the rain delay there was a party at the 13 hauler? I thought you could not drink in the pits during the races? Enlighten us, please.

of course he didn't qualify for the A main, he only made one lap in the B main because of the broken lifter. they tried fixing whatever they could after the trophy dash but there was so little time (since the B was run immediately after the dash) they weren't able to diagnose the problem and fix it in time. so he attempted running the B but obviously the issue was not solved. so their night was over and we headed to the pits to see what was up. then, of course, it rained and over the delay they made repairs (so they were ready for Huset's the next night). after that we had a couple beers in the hauler and the group i was with left before the A ever got started. the dobmeier crew packed up and headed to SD soon after. so there was no party, we just had a couple sauces and that was it--nothing special.
sorry for getting a little worked up over your comments but you just didn't tell the whole story as to why he didn't qualify for the A main and i just wanted to make sure the record was straight.

This is the longest, most drawn out poll I have ever seen. You could probably ask any one of these three guys and they could probably care less about some internet poll. They all have a love for sprint car racing and have fun doing it.

Donny Schatz Named North American 410 Sprint Car Poll 'Driver of The Year' for 2008… Unanimously… Again
by Bob Baker
KNOXVILLE, Iowa -- For the third consecutive year, Donny Schatz of Fargo, North Dakota, was voted the “Driver of the Year” by the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers. Like he did last year, the 2008 World of Outlaws (WoO) point champion and the ’08 Knoxville Nationals winner earned all twenty-four (24) first place ballots cast in the year-end poll. His first-year car owner, Tony Stewart, will receive the 2008 “Team of the Year” award for his second time, as he also won it back in 2001. In the history of the ‘410’ poll from 1985 to present, Donny Schatz (2007, ’08) and Steve Kinser (1988, 1994, 2002) are the only two drivers to have been unanimously voted ‘number one’ in North America by the entire voting panel.
Those drivers ranked second through fifth, respectively, are WoO regulars Jason Meyers of California, 14-time “Driver of the Year” and National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee Steve Kinser of Indiana, Craig Dollansky of Minnesota, and Joey Saldana of Indiana. Rounding out the ‘top ten’ for the season are Jac Haudenschild, Williams Grove Speedway and Speed Dawg Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car Point Series champion Fred Rahmer, All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) titlist Dale Blaney, Daryn Pittman and 2001 “Driver of the Year” and ’08 Knoxville Raceway champion Danny Lasoski, respectively.
Pat Cannon of Pennsylvania has earned the “Rookie of the Year” award in the ‘410’ division. Following a tie in the voting, Ralph Capitani of Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and Justin Loh of the Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania will share the “Promoter of the Year” honors. National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee Capitani is a 9-time winner of this award, while Loh will be a first-time recipient. Jack Elam of J&J Chassis, who claimed the 2008 “Builder/Manufacturer of the Year” award in the ‘360’ poll, will also garner the same plaque for the ‘410’ poll.
Sharing the “Wild Card Award” for exciting ‘410’ sprint car performances, due to another tie in the voting process, are youngster Cody Darrah of Pennsylvania and veteran Jac Haudenschild of Ohio. “Media Member of the Year” was earned by National Speed Sports News editor and publisher emeritus Chris Economaki. According to poll founder Tom Schmeh, “Not many people know it, but the Wild Card Award was basically named for Jac Haudenschild back in 1985. I wanted an award to recognize drivers who were as exciting to watch as the ‘Wild Child’, so I named it the ‘Wild Card Award’ and the 'Ohio Traveler' Rick Ferkel won it the first year. ‘Haud’ won the Wild Card Award in the non-winged poll in 2003, but this is the first time that he’s earned it in the winged ‘410’ poll. And, while it’s incredibly hard to believe, this is the first time that the North American Sprint Car Poll has ever honored Chris Economaki with an award. Sprint car racing fans everywhere owe a huge debt of gratitude to Hall of Famer Chris Economaki for all he’s done during his long career in motorsports journalism to expose the general public to the sport that we love so much. And the fact that the scrivener known worldwide continues it today through his weekly 'Editor's Notebook' column in National Speed Sports News is nothing short of remarkable. Take a bow, Chris!”
The North American 410 Sprint Car Poll is an annual awards program of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation, Inc., of Knoxville, Iowa. All awards will be distributed in the spring of 2009 at tracks throughout North America. The awards were announced late on the third and final day of the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in Orlando, Florida.
