I will not until they/you consistetly get the times down around 15.7 in warmups. Other tracks are faster than Port and no one is asking them to slow them down. The best racing happens when the track is in the high 15 second brackets for warmups and then it slows down by feature. Your track should be at its best for the feature....not the heats.
I been to Port twice this year and didn't like what I saw so I left and said until they get it figured out I will not be back. And the only time they/you have it figured out is when it rains on raceday or rains up to raceday and it is cloudy the day of the race. Sad but true statement.
Lincoln is the best 410 track in central PA and it isnt even close. Fred knows how to prepare a track......
I have enjoyed my 1.5 hour trip to and from Lincoln the times I went. To bad there isn't a good 410 track closer to where I live in Juniata County.
I have been to Lincoln some this year and that place puts on a great show every single night and they are happy to take my money....unlike you at Port. From the beginning to the end great racing at Lincoln.

I would love to see you prepare the track to get the cars "down around 15.7 in warmups" consistently. Are you serious?

Funny how the only one's complaining are the trolls. You go to any WoO race and that is the type of track your going to get. I don't know if it's WRG or the driver's but it is obivious more often than not that is what your going to see. About the only time you see much change is if the weather plays a role in it. Rainy or overcast day. With today's cars, engine HP, tires, shocks it is a fine line of were the track is going to end up. The wheel speed and compounds will and always do, take the track to hard conditions. Week in and week out central pa has some of the finest sprint car racing in the country. If you choose 1 track over another, good for you, i'm sure the fans at each speedway have good reason to be were they are. There are ugly rumors already starting to fly about selingsgrove, let's hope there is no merit to any of them.

Well said, alum - I almost gave up after one and a half pages but you saved the thread.
Port/Lincoln - apples/oranges If I lived in between, I'd be torn. I like them both.

Same here. Grew up near Port Royal so that's my home track and have been loyal through thick and thin, but have always enjoyed Lincoln. Think highly of both tracks!
The changes Port Royal has made in the past several years have been signficantly good, which you typically hear in VL or talking to many of the drivers. The podcast the Outlaws had with Steve O'Neal last week is just one example of high praise for Port Royal.

Next year, the Outlaws will be at Terre Haute this weekend for a WoO/Usac doubleheader.
Any word on next years Port WOO date?

On the Saturday in May before they are at the Grove.

I totally agree. As I've said before, I personally like Lincoln the best these days but it would be cool to have the opportunity to regularly attend both. Port was my home track for many years and I'll always love the place. They've done a lot great things there recently.

It is not that hard for a track like Port if you aren't afraid to put a little more water on the track than what they presently do for most Saturday nights and don't run in the cushion all the time.
Like I said with the speeds they are running there isn't any excitment. Everytime you are at the track you should have an oh my moment. Over the last 5 times I have been at Port "last two years" not once was there an oh my moment.
I have went to lincoln, Selinsgrove, and Williamsgrove and each time I had one of those moments during the feature. That is what is missing at the Port.

The thing about this thread that has been so funny is that there has been a track prep expert telling eveyone how to prep a track. He says it was good Sat. because they ran 15.7 in hotlaps and that it should be that way every week. This is how commenting on a race that you did not attend can make a fool of anyone. To prove that track prep is not an exact science and that it doesn't always turn out the way you think it would. They could run multible grooves Sat. as most weeks but this track which supposed to be so good because of 15.7 hotlaps was one of the dustiest races of the season.

There is no half mile in Central Pennsylvania, and a lot of other places too I'm sure, where 15 second laps are good racing. Period, end of story. The guy continues to prove, with every post, that he is clueless.

i just hope his o my moment is not cars crashing. listen to any outlaw driver, a speed track is follow the guy in front of you, going out for hotlaps is always a joy. set the cruise control on kill and steer the car. we would run 1 hard lap and that was it. only time we ever stayed on track was at path valley for obivious reasons. getting the car to turn, and trying not to tear down the walls. path valley is reaction because if you think about it your crashing it's that simple.

Strawser has been a Port basher for a long time, you can't argue with him or his clueless comments. Funny how he says so many people have the same opinion and quit going, lol. Really, because every big event at Port the stands (which I believe hold like 6k now) are filled. The racing at Port isn't always the best, but it's that way at every single track, period. I've watched crap racing at Eldora, one of the most prestigious tracks in the country. Shit happens. Oh, and as for your "oh my " moment at the Grove, what was that? When the front of the choo choo train caught the rear of the choo choo train?? OH MY!!! The only "oh my" moment i've had in years at the Grove was a few years ago when the Jeep Cherokee push truck slammed the inside backstretch guardrail.

Earlier in the thread, someone talked about a track shouldn’t “peak” during the heats. The entire National Open Weekend, the track peaked during the heats.
I love Port, and it’s pretty amazing what it’s turned into. I almost miss the old Port, which was completely insane and fun, but seeing them lead the way in Central PA is another sign sprint car racing is on the right track.

I don't remember the track (at the Open) being particularly entertaining in warm ups either. I'm pretty sure it peaked at some point during the push trucks running it in/engine heat. I'm not going to say the races were not entertaining at all, becauase of course there were a few moments (Stewart, Hodnett - and always nice to see J-Mac pick up his first Outlaw win after a so-so season in the Highlands car)
However, there is lots of excitement every time I go to Port Royal, I know I'll get my monies worth every time I walk through that gate. I'm a Lincoln regular but I go to Port whenever I get a chance and I'm rarely disappointed. If they ran Friday nights I would spend a lot more Friday nights watching 410s than I do now. Anyone who complains about what Sprint Car and Late Model drivers routinely talk about as one of the best tracks on the East Coast is probably either just not a fan of big tracks, isn't a fan of racing, or is an idiot. Port has done an excellent job on improvements over the last few years that I've lived in the area, and it does not look like they have any plans of slowing down. They have an excellent team behind them who have been a pleasure to work with in my dealings with them. That track is the total package, and I'm glad its here in PA for sure.

I wasn't talking about Central PA. I guess you don't go outside of PA? I have been to tracks where in warmups they had to bring the cars that were in the first warmup session and sometimes the second session back out because it was too wet.....yes they do get into the 15 second bracket every night and yes they are a complete half mile in length. Without the help of mother nature. Not only that but by feature time do these tracks have multilple grooves where the drivers feel confortable to make unbelievable moves. Moves that make you say oh my....did you just see that?! Unlike the Juniata County oval.
Port isn't a half mile either in the Groove. Just ask Johny Gibson.....he has said in the past that port is a little under a half mile in distance.
I have been going to races since 1982. Started going every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday fom 1983 to 1989. I used to go to Port everyweek in the early 2000 for about 4 or 5 years. Now, I pick and choose my races.
With my son....I will be making more trips to races outside PA over the next few years. I have seen a lot of badly prepared tracks in my day. I have also seen a lot of good ones too.
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!
