I still wish they would go back to "Old School" with the full 10 car invert.... That's how they had to do it for years.

Are they magically going to free the cars up to pass like they did back then as well?

....and, revert back to the top cars having 50 hp more than anyone else.

We will see an invert of six before we see an invert of ten again.

Or have the "fast" cars have over a second disparity in times? Everyone is fast these days, just the way it is.

So sprint cars can't pass so we wittle away at the inversion. Give me a break. There was a time when Tyler Walker and Sammy won their heats from dead last and the cars were not a whole lot different then. I think they did it on the same night as a matter of fact.

Yeah, that's precisely what you do. Have you not noticed that inverts across the board have been reduced in year's past? WoO inverts zero off qualifying now, ASCoC qualifies in groups that determine the heats and invert four, Knoxville still inverts six on a weekly show but there usually is enough equipment disparity to give those guys a chance... With as locked down as the cars are, this had to be done.

Also, stuff like Carl Wilson taking out 70% of a heat race in 2008 didn't help either.

I just randomly sampled last year vs 15 years prior (2001) for average starting spot for heat race winners at the Nationals... 5.7 in 2001 with a full invert, 3.0 last year with faster cars starting further up. The format just had to be modified to not completely punish the fastest guys on the track.

Until the car count climbs above 120, inverting 8 is the way to go IMO.

If the car count was higher, you would have some "slower" cars that could hold their line starting in the front with a 10 invert.

Currently with just at 100 cars, those guys that are a little to "squirrely" to be starting up front are now at the rear with the 8 invert.  With 120 cars they are in the "last chance" heats instead.

From listening to various drivers the past few years, they think it's easier to pass cars in the heat when the invert is 10 over when it is 8,6,4 or 0.

No matter what though, the "cream always rises to the top" come Saturday and the cars you expect to be in the feature usually are.
