Knoxville is the best half mile. Hands down. Their track prep crew is the best, unless Mother Nature and the weather gods throw them a wicked curve ball they always have a multi groove racey track.

Whilst on the half mile subject let me ask a different question. With the ever increasing popularity of the Knoxville Late Model Nationals and reading what people put on here about the Lucas Oil LM show at Port Royal about a month ago have we now entered an era in racing where the late models are more interesting to watch on a half mile then winged sprint cars? Not trying to poop in the Wheaties of a primarily open wheel forum but in a lot of cases it seems the LMs are more entertaining on bigger tracks?

I have watched this discussion with interest. Good subject. Truth of the matter is there are great race tracks all around the country. Each can have a barn burner and each can have a snoozer. While the Kings Royal is a great event, it in no way compares to the Knoxville Nationals. It can't. The purse hovers around $1,000,000.00 dollars! The excitement, anticipation and atpmosphere of the Nationals is unbeleivable. The place is a buzz for four days....night and day. From night one on Wednesday through the finals on Saturday. It may be difficult to comprehend for those who have never been there in person, and that's understandable. I was fortunate enough to be there for forty-three of them and the excitement and anticipation never waivered. And now that I'm forced to stay home and watch it on the internet.....I swear.....I can smell the place and the excitment of all those years comes rushing back. I suppose some fans that have loyally attended the Kings Royal may feel the same way. But when it comes to the Nationals, ask the drivers and team owners. Afterall, the passion exists on both sides of the fence, and I'd bet it peaks for drivers and owners at the Nationals as well.

Totally agree Blazer.  Knoxville is just something that has to be experienced.   I'm sorry to hear that you're not in a position to go any longer.   I wish I had gone earlier in my life, and even more when my dad was still alive.  My dad would have loved it.   Once you go the first time,  you gotta keep going back every year.   It's especially a treat for me because sprint car racing sucks so bad in the Dallas area.
