Use to be Outlaws came to town and ran local track rules. Then Ted Johnson took over and it reversed. Now the Outlaws change rules every year under their corporate funding and demand local racers change every year to meet there rules, as well, membership dues. The Outlaws better figure it out quick or they can count the west coast out soon, no 410s are participating. Keeping up with tire, wing, axel, teather ect rule changes is expensive when locals use pretty much same stuff year to year. Use to be the Outlaws carried say 12 to 15 of which all were absolute hitters with the exception of two or three. Now its reversed, they just dont have any STAR power its not there. Dirt Motorsports better figure it quick or say goodbye to the Outlaws as it is currently.

Those who say the WOO has no star power, will always say that no matter who is running with them weekly. That's comparable to those who stated the NBA will suffer after Jordan retires, again.
Have the crowds and car counts been low at WOO races across the US?
IMO the WOO are a diverse, talented group of young and old, and in betweens. Please name the 12-15 drivers, any year, that were all hitters?

Totally agree with this. The ironic part about it is that already they've had 7 different winners. The death of the WoO has been predicted for decades. I am concerned about the car counts in Cali though.

I think the car counts will be up and down, several regular drivers will be doing some other racing for sure, but there will be a couple of new drivers as well. I think the high counts will be 20 or so, and then you will see them dip to the low teens for some races. Its a tough thing, they have racing spread out, and its hard to compete with the more founded teams, so the financial side it a tough one. If you are a start up team, and not winning, the purse money just covers travel expenses, forget about the rest of it. And they run on some tracks that can certainly be hard on cars, so if you are entering it with just enough, it probably wont get you too far. Too bad there wasn't tow money!

Some things to consider other than obvious issues like budget of teams, outlaw teams with top shelf motors, etc. The outlaws and kws series do have a few rules that differ, so if you are a smaller kws team, or even a local 410 car team(Chico), you need some satey items to run with the Outlaws that arent othrwise required, different wing rules if you run a dish wing, different tires needed for outlaws, drivers membership. So it really doesn't make much sense for some teams to spend the extra money, plus they have full schedules with KWS races, so you have more motor expenes to do them all. The co-sanctioned event is a nice idea, but hardly fair for people running kws that dont want to spend money for no need. If you want to see more cars, get the payout higher from the bottom of the results sheet, you will see more cars!

also to keep it mind, some farmers are struggling with the drought and the oil industry is not doing well at all.
if u thought car counts were low at chico, just wait for Perris. But should be a good night of racing, with the addition of the non wing 410 CRA USAC cars too.

I drove up to Ocean speedway 850 miles round trip. Up and back same day and night. I made the mistake thinking a gang load of KWS cars would show up to run against the WoO. What happened to Northern Ca being the hotbed for 410 wings. Was a little disappointed, But at least I was watching sprint cars.

IMO again I believe that the lack of interest for many years now for the WOO-zers. KWS for me for sure. outlaws are on their way......out! jmo again
peeps are just not that interested in $40-50 ticket prices...

It's NWFAN's fault. He killed 410s in the Northwest and now California is next.

You're right on with this one. Couple that with the elimination of heat inversions, and the impact is already evident.

While I also agree with better payout from the bottom up, it's time the top increases too. If anyone is keeping up on the happenings in the midwest, you'll see that the KWS is now at the bottom of the payscale. NSL pays $5,000, All Stars $5,000, Badlands Motor Speedway is paying $5,000 (so they say). An argument could made to throw Badlands from the equation, fair enough, but I feel NSL and All-Stars are a fair comparison. We've lost Scelzi to the midwest, and you could argue that we've also lost Macedo, and TK for the same reason. You could even go as far as to say that the 17w Matt Wood Racing team would stay closer to home if the pay was better. None of this is for certain, but I know one thing that is...$5,000 is now the "going rate" to win a 410 race.

Very valid point, and I too wish it was better for a win, however, the numbers of non winners far outway the numbers of winners. If you are out winning a 410 race at KWS level, chances are you are a well founded and funded team. The money increase from 2nd and down willl go much further towards getting these cars up to par than it would to give even more to the winner. This is not to say they don't deserve it, THEY DO!, just, if the sport is going to attract drivers/car owners away from 360 racing, they need to make it a worthy proposition. In my opinion, I would rather see less races, with larger payouts, so the numbers make a bigger impact! These guys would then drive 360 races, or non wing to fill in some blanks. Quality instead of quantity. I see no reason the normal season needs to be more than 12 races, then you can throw in some Outlaw races,(no show up points issued), or non wing races. Thats still 2 races a month just with that schedule. I think you would see a more healthy balance if this was the case.

Agreed on all points. With a few less races, my wife would be rolling her eyes less too.

This really goes for the 360 cars that run with the WoO. Not in any of their rules is tethers, axle size etc.. There used to be a bonus of $2500 for the highest 360 car at Gold Cup far as I know that is gone. So if you run with KWS and go by what I see their rules no axle tethers etc... 360 none at all.

I think KWS would be better off with a special-events-only schedule. Run 8 to 10 weekends a year with two races each weekend at the same track or two tracks very near each other. Throw in a 4- or 5-race speedweek if the owners are willing. The idea would be to have big-deal events that draw interest, rather than weekly races that are easy to ignore.
Alternatively, KWS could cooperate with Silver Dollar, much like NSL has done with Knoxville. Make Silver Dollar the regional home for winged 410s, and add 5 to 10 other KWS races elsewhere.
