KTjr tried and not enough talent? Thinking you missed the boat here. Didn't he finish third in the final midget points after leading the points for a spell? And hasn't he just signed a deal to run the full ARCA schedule?

kt was one of only 2 drivers that ran the entire usac midget series this year(the other being champ tracy hines) so third in points is a bit deceiving

USAC National Midgets and even POWRi National Midgets require a lot of funding to run the entire series. No one that runs competivitely in these series are middle class. There is nothing wrong with people spending the money on the things that they want. When I saw a bomber show up in an enclosed trailer, I knew that there were absolutely no class' left that were completely the domain of the middle class.

as you pointed out, some people spend more to race than what is needed. I agree that it takes plenty of $ to run any sort of national series.
As far as the middle class being able to race, I guess it depends on what you are willing to give up. If I told you what I made and was able to race a winged 410 & win a few I'd be called a liar.
