I believe FRC PR stated they had 18 & 19 nights on theirs without a rebuild and one of those with a lot of nights on it was the one he won a WoO show with.

I have two dumb questions; and let me first state I'm just a guy that goes to the stands (buys a ticket, buys a couple beers, buys a burger, buys a tshirt, etc).  Is $14k for a 410 rebuild a deal or not, (I wasn't sure by the way FRC asked)?  Do they really need to be rebuilt every 12.5 shows or approx. $900 a night avg?

Not dumb questions.  That is a real price for an actual rebuild earlier this year.  3rd rebuild since new.   Engine rebuilds can sometimes be pushed farther like 15-20 races, and some part change intervals can be extended to two or more rebuilds before replacement.   But it becomes a gamble in the long run.   Light weight parts often means higher cost and most always means less durability.  I also consider opportunity cost.  I don't want a $125 rocker arm or lifter breaking because I chose to save the replacement cost on the last rebuild and drop out of the lead of a $5,000 to win race and end up with $500 start money.  If a piston fails, or a valve drops because of a longer interval, that rebuild cost may go as high as 20-25k, and again, the loss of purse money for the race it failed in.  If you are racing for a large point fund like the NSL and Knoxville have, the drop in one or two positions at the top of the list will also cost you thousands at the end of the year.  It's all about increasing your horsepower and reliability at the same time.

I like hearing about guys pushing the envelope and winning against the odds.  That's a win for all of us against the nascar owner teams.  We bought two of Stewarts motors a couple years back and every part besides injection, block and head castings was only one or two freshens old.

Baylands, great response. We try to run our 410's 12-15 nights (Rider counts laps on engine & wants us to basically go 15 nights). After 10 we try not to run on half miles like Knoxville & use them primarily on the shorter tracks to get more nights out of them. We ran 19 nights a few times the last few years mainly because we were short on engines & we had to. I think $14,000 for a freshen is a bit high. We pay in the $7000-$7500 range if no problems exist.

Baylands, I am curious who rebuilds your engines for $14,000 per rebuild?

He used to build Fords so he charges double.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

So whats your point, are you trying to make people feel bad cause they don't live in Pa.? Things are much more spread out in the Midwest, NSL is just trying to make racing more practical for the teams in that area

I agree. Some snot-nosed jerk from PA always has to chime in on a thread and say "Looky at what we have in da Quaker State."  I actually get to see passing here in Indiana.

The post above was not to discredit or discount the NSL payout post, only to point out our experience and one teams example of the real operating costs we experienced running a competitive sprint team.   I like  where the NSL is going,  it actually sounds like a very good schedule and payout.  We always expect to supplement our operating expenses with advertising write offs for the construction company and with the generous help of a couple small sponsors, and the NSL payout over all of the races would make the year much more affordable and easier to race that many races.

BaylandsRP, would you be willing to share what car you own? Your candidness and point of view has definately made a fan of me and I'd love to support the "cause" with a t-shirt or sweatshirt purchase next time I'm in California (hopefully Trophy Cup next year).

Well actually I'm a Posse fan myself. I live in Colorado during school year & Connecticut in summer, my first sprint car races were in Pa., go there for a few races every year, but Indiana bullrings are growing on me, been to the last 3 Kokomo Smackdowns (or last 2? My memory is failing!)

But there are too many cheap shots, name calling & "nanny nanny na nas" on this Website

Its all for fun, everyone should just grow up & enjoy it....

This is an informative thread, written in part by people who seem to know what they are talking about. Which makes it unlike 99.74% of the threads on here.

Reminds me why I still visit this web page. haha

Thank you for info on the real cost of 410 racing. So basically it costs anywhere between $150K to $500K and up, per year, to own and race a 410 at an elite and competitive level. Kinda puts it into perspective, So glad there are folks out there who love it enough to make it possible. I think I speak for many on here when I say, if I won the stupid money lottery, my second phone call would be my wife because my first call would be abc chassis company to order a couple cars!
