Let's not fool ourselves.....Cheever (and several others) won watered down 500's right after the IRL/CART split.
|
You race against the people who are there.....not the who might have been or could have been or weren't.
Awin is a win. He got the money, the credit and his face on the trophy.
Go tell schatz he won a watered down woo championship in 2006.
to indy and beyond!!

Please folks. its.
CLAUSON Not Clawsen, Clausen or even Brian. It's BRYAN :)
Chuck, who don't necessarally totally dissagree with what the guys said, But the way they said it.
Theres no real avenue to Indy and it takes a wadd of someones money just to go through whats ACCEPTABLE training classes. Indy Light, and others.

you fail to consider what would have happened to indy car racing if the irl was not formed.
cart was ruining indy racing and teams were folding because of the "franchise" rules and the costs and the biased decision making. when the owners of the teams run the series and only a couple of those owners are making the rules to benefit them and forcing everyone else to abid by them, things don't go well.
there was a reason the irl was able to garner enough support to dethrone cart. without indy car racing there would be no indy 500. tony george did what he had to do to keep the indy speedway from becoming a deserted piece of land with no use.
it may or may not be proper to blame him for the way the irl was run but it darn sure isn't right to blame him for the break up of cart. that organization was doomed no matter what he did. he just gave people some place else to go.
to indy and beyond!!

LMAO.......the IRL is today, what CART was then except for one thing....The racing with CART was much better. The IRL was formed from a Tony George ego trip. Just compare the 1995 Indy 500 entry list to the 1996 and beyond lists. If the IRL was a good idea, there would have been more than 33 cars to qualify. "Bump day" has been irrelevent ever since.

cart was in the process of disintigrating. without the irl there would possibly be no indy car racing today.... or at least for the time it took to put something else together.
anyway i am not speaking about today i am talking about what happened at the time, and at the time cart was falling apart. they were a victim of some of the same things that led them to break from usac wich broke from AAA. something had to be done to try to keep indy car racing in existence for the immediate term and to keep the 500 going.
if cart was such a good deal then it should have buried irl. they both had a chance to make a go of it. but as i said cart had one leg in the grave already.
to indy and beyond!!

Wouldn't it be nice if a driver could mash the gas all the down the straights and then have to lift and DRIVE a loose car through the corners? Sprint car drivers know how to do that. Sadly, aerodynamics and ground effects mandate holding a car wide open through the turns. Rick Mears is big advocate of 250 mph down the straights and 180 through the corners. I bet a lot of guys from the sprint car world could do that.

I've often wondered about that! I mean how the Indy Cars mash the gas all the the way around the track, I wonder how they know what that "Magical Speed" is where the Rubber leaves the Asphalt and the next thing you know they are sweeping the car up into a Box. I mean from my point of view there seems to be no sliding in the corners, It looks like it is either Go or No Go

For Bryan Clauson and the whole team, good job. You are racing in the Indianapolis 500. How many of us wish we could be there?
From a strategy standpoint, the team can do the math--they were going to be in the race. No sense at all running out there and put it in the fence. I think it is a great move. Work on setup and be there in the end. 500 miles is a long race. Win or lose, great job from the sprint car and midget family!
