As far as Gravel goes this year I can honestly say that I saw him losing this ride about 2 weeks ago, it finally happened. Reason being is that he had a good year last year but just wasn't putting up the numbers this year thus far, Roth isn't going to sit back and watch that. Gravel was sitting 9th in points with only 2 top 5's, I've seen him in a few highlight reels upside down...I'm actually a Gravel fan but the numbers were speaking for themselves. You win some, you lose some.
do it in the dirt

Schatz is the best all time. He has gone against tougher competion thanthe rest of your list did. 410 sprint cars are so even right now its truly amazing what Schatz has done the last couple years.

With all due respect this might be the most moronic comment I have seen in a long time. Did you just become a sprint car fan? Do you think Donny could win as much when Steve, Sammy and Wolfie were in their prime? NO WAY.
These were three of the best to ever sit in a sprint car and they all did it at the same time when they were in the prime of their careers. This is not a knock on Donny at all, as he is the best in the business today and has been for the last 5 years. I belieeve he would say he is not the best of all time and wouldn't have dominated back in "the day" with these guys. He might have been lucky to win 5 races a year back then.

Donny was beating Steve and Sammy when they were still able to win any night at any track, to assume that Donny couldnt hang with these guys in the 80's is pure speculation. I have a feeling Donny in his prime vs. anyone in history in their prime would have been good racing. Im not saying Donny would have dominated these guys but Ill bet he would have been right there with them winning races. Im not a Schatz fan but he is as good as anyone who has ever wheeled a sprinter, if you dont agree you probably are a hater, a true fan can admire somones abilities even if they dont like the driver personally, case and point, I think Sammy Swindell may be one of the biggest dicks to ever wheel a Sprinter but he's also one of the best.

I have always thought this was more of a generation thing on the best ever. But I look at those drivers listed from chilly and I looked at the list currently on the WoO website and I agree. Just my opinion but the current WoO list is pretty weak compared to that 80's/90's list.

^^^^ I agree and to add to that:
They can't fathom what we speak because they didn't witness it. The 80's/early 90's might have produced some of the best sprint car drivers ever to sit behind the wheel all at the same time. Guys like Blaney, Davis Jr, Shuman, Carson, Haud, Doty, Jacobs, Kauffman, Mark Kinser and Tim Green were all after thoughts in comparision to the BIG 3.
All of these guys are HOF's, but struggled to win at any substancial rate. Winning on a nightly basis was unbelievably difficult with teh amount of talent that existed and the level of talent was immense. Thats what made it all the harder to win. The amount of talent today doesn't even begin to hold a candle to what there was 25-30 yrs ago. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of good talent today, but its not HOF type talent that we witnessed in this window of time.
Back to the BIG3. Each of the three had their dominate years, Wolfie(84,85,89), Sammy(82,83,97 and any year he concentrated on sprint cars)and Steve(86-88, 91-94, early 2000s and any year he didn't have mechanical issues).
Between the two of us we have seen a enough races to know what we saw and how it compares today from yesterday. Let the natives fight over their unknown knowledge.

Your right, Saldana, Mcmahon, Pittman, Kaeding, Dolansky, Brown, Shane Sewart, Sweet, Larson, Abreu, K Swindell are subpar to huge stars like Tim Green ? We will never know what any of those hall of fame drivers could do in todays Sprint climate where anyone with enough money can buy the same equiptment as the best drivers in the country. Im old enough to remeber Lynn Paxton and Mitch Smith racing, and im simply not convinced that Dave Blaney, Bobby Davis Jr, Mark Kinser, Lasoski, Haud, Shane Carson, Kenny Jacobs, Jimmy Sills, Ron Shuman, Keith Kauffman, Brad Doty, Bobby Allen, and Rick Ferkel are any better or worse than the drivers I listed above. Dont get me wrong those guys were all incredible racers but you take a Shane Stewart or a Darren Pittman back in time in top equipment and Im sure they would be in the hall of fame right along side the older guys. Bottom line you cant compare today with the 80's, completely different set of variables but one thing is for sure good drivers are good drivers regardless of when they were born or what erea they raced in.

Saldana and Pittman are the only ones on your list worthy of conversation. Brown has had nice career so far, but his body work is young, but clearly making an impression so far in his young career.
Lets take a look a the most significant things in sprint car racing and do a comparision based on facts, shall we.....
Your List drivers:
Knoxville Nats wins=0
Kings Royal wins=3(Saldana(2) and Pittman)
WoO Titles=1(Pittman)
Our list of drivers:
Knoxville Nats wins=10(Blaney, M Kinser(3),Lasoski(4), Allen, Shuman)
Kings Royal wins=7 (Blaney(2), Haud(3), Davis, M Kinser)
WoO Titles=5(Blaney, M Kinser(2), Lasoski, Davis)
Just the facts!

Yea and those guys careers are over these guys, are just getting started. Let's add Donny to my list, and Kerry and Ian Madsen, Kraig Kinser, again I'm not saying anyone is better or worse but I think today's competition is every bit as tough as it was in 80's infact I think it's tougher given the equality of the cars, you hang on to your glory days Pappy I'll enjoy the new blood while you piss all over today wishing it could be more like it was way back when, enjoy!

Hey Mr. Obvious....you're right their careers are over or at least most of them. Thanks for the memo. Now you want to add drivers to strengthen your case... including Donny, which the original post was about...You're too funny.
I can tell your from PA, which makes my debate even all the more funny since Bobby Davis Jr. won everything in PA as a 19 yr old for Bob Weikert before he launched into the Outlaws in '84. Need I jog your memory, but he wasn't very good, huh? I can also tell youdon't leave the porch much.
Oh by the way, I would bet I'm much younger than you think, but way more knowledgable about racing. Anytime you need air you can tap out.

FYI.....most the guys you mentioned are in their 30's or older. Their careers aren't just getting started they are mid stream. Carry on.

You people praising Donny are forgetting to give Ricky Warner some credit.
Steve was winning all those races in Karls car. Some were saying steve was the king because he was driving gods car.
Yes the drivers are good but remember back more than a few years ago when Warner jumped back and forth between KKR with Saldana and the 15 with Donny?
Seemed like who ever Ricky was helping between the two was winning.

bingo!!!!..........and who taught warner? shatz bent up more shit during his first few years on the road that he couldnt keep a crew chief or crew. his dad funded the whole deal...broken cars and all. he got better but really stepped it up when warner came onboard. i am not a shatz fan even though i jumped in on the crew one night and rebuilt a piece of metal yard art back into a racecar at the natty open....i do have a tremendous amount of respect for how he has progressed since the days of putting parts in the trailer at the end of the night rather than rolling it in on 4 wheels......

Well, color me shocked that Kinser raced against more Hall of Fame drivers than Schatz. Who'd have thought that would be the case given the minimum entry age of 50?
There will never be a way to compare who is better given the generational gap. Just spinning tires.

I think your wheaties got all soggy when I gave you a list of facts and your debate was highly squashed, but again.. I'm a know it all, but the facts support me debate and not yours. So then you wanted to hurl a shot over bow and call me "Pappy", which is hilarious. This is pretty mcuh standard fashion on this board...the reason I rarely post or read it, which I wish I wouldn't have now. It just reinforces why I don't. Debates supported by facts get nowhere on a message borad and opinions are always right.
I appreciate your endorsement for the sprint car know it all award.. Can I expect my gold medal in the mail? I need a few more awards for my mantle.
I think you should send Chilly one as well since he appears to know a thing or two as well.
Carry on....back to hiberantion!

Soggy Wheaties? really that's your best? Look you didn't squash anything, I don't care about your list of facts LOL, Today's drivers are every bit as good as the guys you mentioned, Kraig Kinser won the Knoxville nationals, does that make him a hall of fame driver? You base a drivers abilities on weather or not they won big races, that's it. Those races are big acomplishments but they don't define who is great and who is not. I take back my endorsement for know it all, you don't know shit. Now go back in your cave before someone puts a bullet in your thick head.
