the complete opposite arguement could be made for Schatz being better. A year ago, Schatz drove through the A-Main of the toughest race of the year and won. A race that is designed for the winner to come from the top 3 rows. They have 2 qualifying nights to put the "best" cars up front.
Back when Wolfgang was driving through Alpahbets everyone was building their own stuff. Some of these guys were showing up with basically what we are calling 305s now. 317s were a thing for a while.
There wasn't a distinction between 410, 360 and so on.
Schatz was "bad" because he was 20 years old and still learning. Seems like he took a lot of notes. Brian Brown was "bad".
These guys dont get track time. The only track time they get is a race. So it takes a while to learn, that's why you see them go out on tour before they are ready. For some it works and they stay, others it works and they fail as WoO drivers but they come back to a local area and are better than they were before and then some just fall off the map.
I cheered just like everyone else on lap 44. Don't discredit Schatz. Dudes good. Best out there the last 10 years. We may not like seeing the same guy win every year, but when it happens - at least give the guy credit
