not a very exciting race again , same winner !! maybe track will go back to shorter distance , with no tire change , and maybe a bigger fuel cell . This distance once again is great for a driver who has best crew chief in sprint car racing . A nonstop race would be nice ? but then this is WoO RACING , WINNER OFF FRONT ROW . But regardless every fan should take in Knoxville its an event besides racing .
|
Last year he started 21st and won, it was a Woo race, please explain how this is possible since every woo race is own from the front row? It sounds like your grasping for an excuse as to why your driver lost. Sprintcar racing is a team sport, from tire groover to driver and the 15 team is the best in the world right now, don't be a whiney lil girl about it, accept it and be glad you get to see one of the best ever in the prime of his career.

Brown & Schatz have a great rivalry going at Nationals. If he ever decided to go on Outlaws tour, it could be the next Kinser/Swindell thing....
|
In a rivalry, doesn't each side have to win at least once in a while? That is like saying the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals have this great rivalry. So in that analogy, is Brian Brown Kinser or Swindell?

Stan, I mcertainly hope so, they have a pretty large archive of past events available for viewing. it states on their website that if you paid for the live PPV of that particular event, you can watch the archived version, but it isn't up yet.
|
I was hoping to watch it tonight but it's still not up. I'm kind of PO'd at my son for not making an attempt to wake me up. He sat there in the chair next to me and watched the whole thing. Darned kids!!! ;)

Gee , did you notice that if race was 25 laps or 30 laps that Donny S. would have still won. I like 50 laps and no one had anything for Shatz except Brown. One way to beat him is to score more points in qualification TT and races so he does not start anyplace near front row.

No one is whining , yes Donny Schatz is a great driver and yes I know all about it being a team sport or business . But everyone is missing the key point I'm trying to make is that it would be a better race for all fans if it were a shorter distance , no tire change and maybe no fuel stop if they were allowed to carry a larger fuel cell or tank in past years . As I said before Donny has the best crew chief right now in Ricky Warner , and that is where his success lies , not only in his driving ability . I would like to see WRG or Knoxville make changes to make it a better race . I know people won't agree with this opinion as well but it could be a race of who lasts , not saying it wouldn't be Donny again . And I make no excuse for any driver , because I like and respect all drivers and you the loyal fans . I also believe one driver dominating is not good for the sport or Knoxville or any race .

Race stats - 50 laps, 3 passes on the track.
|
It was one of the most boring, if not the most boring, Knoxville Nationals races that I have attended (I started attending them in the early 80's).
Considering the late start, lack of racing action, and not getting done till after midnight, it was one of the most boring nights that I have spent at a racetrack this year (87 nights at single and multiple night events so far).

Except for the couple of laps where Brian Brown took the lead, you did not miss much.

You are correct. They need to go back to 30 laps and no stoppage in the middle of the race.

I wondered the same thing myself. You absolutely can not switch cars, right? Just the body? why switch the body?

Sheldon Haudenschild definitely switched cars.

I agree lasoskifan, the A main was really boring to watch except for 3 laps when Brown and Schatz swapped it around a bit. I knew when the track wasn't burning off and was staying heavy and tacky that the 50 lapper was going to be a snooze fest. Only thing that would have helped is if the track started to change during the race but it never did.
A few things on Schatz when you really watch him. He rarely makes mistakes and looses momentum and is very smooth. He did screw up on his qualifying night and missed the bottom and slid all the way to the cushion but that doesn't happen very often from him. Other thing is his crew chief has that car absolutely dailed in at Kville. That thing runs really straight in the turns and is smooth.
For comparison if anybody watched Jeff Swindell his car was fast but was all over the place. Twitching around like a moving chicane.

You are correct. Donnie and his crew definitely have Knoxville figured out. Hopefully next year, Brian Brown or someone else can make up the difference and beat him to the checkered flag.

I just hope everybody realizes what we are witnessing. Yeah people dislike Donny because he is so good, but he worked his butt off to get into the position he is in. That team busts their butts to make the car what it is and Donny has exceptional talent. Brown I feel will eventually get the job done, but people enjoy this Schatz dominance because it is something very special and may not bee seen again for a long time to come, if ever.

yeah if the outlaws race at knoxville every weekend...has brown ever won an outlaw show away from knoxville...and you comparing to swindell and kinser?
|
I don't know if Brown has won an Outlaw race outside of Knoxville. I said "could be". Maybe I should have added "potentially". If Brown did the whole WoO tour, I think he would learn the tracks & be a contender

OK, its a less than perfect analogy. Brown made it interesting in Knoxville last 3 yrs. & I think he could do the same with WoO. Swindell, of course....
But your Globies/ Generals analogy is worse.... Generals were a laughingstock
A good buddy of mine got a call from Generals coach Red Klotz years ago asking him to join the team... but his wife just got a job in Colorado so he moved out here. That might have been fun, & he would have tried to win & gotten pissed off... even funnier
Rush Limbaugh would make a good coach for the Generals. He could whine about reverse racism....

Techncally Brown has never won an Outlaw show, I do not believe the Nationals count as WoO victories.

Really, it was the most boring??? Are you comparing it to the years when Wolfgang "checked out" and won (84,85 and 89), when Kinser Checked out and won (81,82,86,88). Heck, Steve won by 9 SECONDS one year (that's over 1/2 lap) and this was the most "boring"???
The race I watched was very entertaining, but maybe I watch more than the top 2-3 cars race too.
FOREVER the Saturday Night show has been the most anti-climactic (the top cars are virtually all starting up front unless they have a HUGE issue (Wolfgang crashing in 1990 on his qualifying night for example and racing his way through the Alphabet).
As far as the time of night, I guess I expected it going in (Kinser's last Nationals as a full-time Outlaw -- gonna do some kind of tribute, driver introductions, the afternoon show (starting after 8:00 is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the 1980's, I remember hotlaps at Midnight for the E Main and National Anthem @ 1:00 AM on Saturday Night/Sunday morning more than once when a day race was held on Saturday. (and the Chemical Sprayers doing the track packing as they were the only vehicles that wouldn't sink into the mud).

So was the Boston Celtics, LA Lakers, or Jordan's Bull's bad for the sport of basketball?
No one wants to see a single team win every time out there but that's how almost every single sport is.
Who ever wins the Knoxville Nationals notted named Schats, that win will be that much sweeter.
Keep It Real

He did the whole WOO tour in the #6 about 8-10 years ago. He was young then and not quite as good as he is now.

I have to agree, when I used to read about the Nationals in the 80s and 90s, the tagline was "get there for Wed and Thurs" because by Saturday, you knew who was going to win. And then by Saturday, Kinser or Wolfgang would win from the pole. How about this list of guys who led the finale from start to finish:
1982 Steve Kinser 1985 Doug Wolfgang 1986 Steve Kinser 1987 Steve Kinser 1989 Doug Wolfgang 1991 Steve Kinser 1992 Steve Kinser
7 times in a 10 year stretch!
