He ran the Janet Holbrook car at Attica.

Yes I am aware of that, but you said on PA turf 2 of 4 the races were with the All-Stars which is just not true, lol. You're digging pretty deep here to try and pry something or at least it seems that way from my vantage point.

Ah, just re-read your post and you're saying he's run 4 times in PA and 2 times with the All-Stars (Attica), I misread that the first time through. My apologies. He won't be in the CH 83 again this year so I highly doubt he will run a race outside of Pennsylvania unless Fred lets him take the car to Knoxville. He's been at the track every week at Lincoln wondering around helping out the 88 and 51. Quite simply, ask Stevie what he thinks - I'm pretty sure we all know what his answer will be, why should we decide what he is when he can? If the World of Outlaws say Stevie Smith is Posse, I sure hope a local newspaper writer can admit he is Posse. I know it would be a nice article to debunk that and derail some fans but at some point there should be a line drawn.

To me, he is more Posse than World of Outlaws, that is for sure. My point in my story was from the event was there was a lot of question about that in the booth and in stands. I thought it was a different slant leading into the story. It's an interesting debate.
As for the World of Outlaws, Stevie or full-fledged Posse member winning is good for business. That, and a good race. It's good to see tickets the next time they blow through the area.

The top 6 were 3 current Outlaw Drivers and 3 former Outlaw Drivers, nothing special here. Reality did set in for the winner the last few years, impressive that young Freddie made the A, highlight of the night in my world....
|
Hey there MSPN. How goes it??
You are spot on with the highlight of the night!!
Fred made the statement last night that watching Freddie make the A in his first attempt was a bigger deal to him then himself winning the Open last year. That tells you how this guy thinks. I have had a couple conversations with him the last month and it doesn't take much to see how proud and excited he is of these 2 kids. I'm not sure if you have ever had the pleasure of meeting little Freddie, but you would be more then impressed. Great kid who works as hard as anybody doing what he loves to do.
You are right about the top 6, and what a good race it was. With 2 to go, I really thought any of the top 3 could still win and even Haud running 4th could have slipped in there if the top 3 messed up just a bit. Posse, or Outlaw or something in between it was a cool show to be at. You know I bleed posse blood, but I was still rooting for my good friend Pittman to steal the win. Lol
Hope all is well in your world my friend. Hope to see you back at the track sometime!!

I believe Danny was the prime mover in the A Main...and was the only car to survive the Swindell spin.

Just a quick thought...It annoys me when people call him Smith Jr. His name is Stevie. His dads name is Steve. While close..they are not the same. That's All

Yep, goes to show even the greats with hundreds of wins can step on the ol' winky once in a while. Can't wait to see him at the Speed Palace later this year though. Oh yeah!!!

As for it being the first thing out of his mouth, Smith will always consider Lincoln his home track. Even though he has raced there zero times in seven races this season and a handful of times in the last three or four years.
|
A little more humility would be nice from some fans, I have to agree with that. But I'm pretty sure Stevie was born and raised within walking distance of Lincoln Speedway? Still lives here part time? Pretty sure the whole Smith family is pretty rooted in the PA Sprint car thing? His wife is a Siegel, thinking she's not from OK. Been driving by the original #19 hauler and shop between Hanover and East Berlin for about 15 years now. There is always this double standard, if your not born, raised, and race in PA you can't be Posse, but if you don't leave the porch, you didn't matter? Now which is it? I've always thought Paul McMahan was a good comparison, born in CA, lives in TN, races all over. Pretty sure everyone still knows he's from CA and he mentioned it when he won out there. Well, then Stevie's very similar, but he's raced a lot more in PA than Paul has in CA in recent years. Do some PA fans get carried away with it, absolutely, I think the racing here speaks for itself and doesn't require that, but I'd argue the WoO press team is the one that posts the boldest headlines about this. When you go to www.paposse.com, the headline reads: "Stevie Smith holds off Hodnett and Pittman for Lincoln World of Outlaws Score", the WoO site has "POSSE STRIKES" with a triumphant Smith fist pumping off the right rear tire. Who's embellishing the rivalry here? Congrats to the entire #51 team, both cars. Should be another great one Saturday night with hopefully heavier track than a normal WoO show, in other words, a good one.

are fans from parts unknown a little sensitive going into the PA swings every year...absolutely...you see the same sour grapes posts from the usual suspects every year running.
take MSPN for example...his racing expertise can be expected to appear like ground hog day...and disappear just as quick after the WoO leaves town. do a quick search of the HH archives if you need a reminder.
3 cars that caught people's eyes as being on the move last night were the 21, the 4 and the 48...all three have been part of the excitement factor at Lincoln for years.

I'm not going to get deep into this "is the Bandit posse or non-posse this year" stuff. I've been a fan of his since 1984 and cheered for him thoroughly when he ran in PA (until 1989), with the Outlaws (1990-approx. 2001), and everywhere else afterwards. I'm very sure that 80% of his races this year will be in the Central PA area so would I consider him Posse this year based on that info? Yes, but as for winning last night, I was more excited that he won than an every weekend 'posse' guy winning.

Felt the same way, was rooting for him to hold off Hodnett as much as Pittman. Not too often a driver can run 4 races all season versus 30-40, none at that particular track that year, none ever with that particular team at that track, and win a WoO race with 48 cars in the pits. I guess that's what happens when you combine a Smith with a Rahmer at Lincoln. Between Steve, Stevie, and Fred, that's 344, 410 Sprint car wins between them now. Based on what I'm seeing at of these other two Rahmer's, that total has a long time to grow before history is finished with it...

Stevie is a class act and his Dad is in the same sentence, heck throw in Mom and you have three of the nicest people in Sprint Car racing. Stevie is certainly originally Posse but reall has raced there to any degree in over two decades. He was a great Outlaw racer and has been an Okie for a dozen years or more I think. No matter what he is a great one and the Hall of Fame should be in his resume before he's done. As for Greg and Jac, well TN and OH have been known to produce some pretty good racers over the years and these are two examples.
Raz, great to hear from you, likely won't hit anything this year until the Nationals again, if I'm still on the right side of the dirt, let me know if you're going, all the best, Take It Easy....
PS I stand by my original comment, little Freddie making the A-Main on a night the King didn't is a feather to put in his cap forever and Mom and Dad had to be the proudest parents at Lincoln last night, wishing him continued success....

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a knowledgable race fan saying Stevie Smith is NOT Posse. The crowd ovation when he crossed the finish line and his ovation right back in VL spoke for itself.

Since you like to sound like a broken record...
You forgot to mention Sub Stop, and Wayne Harper in your annual response regarding the PA Posse. You successfully covered Fred and Deb Rahmer, Greg Hodnett as well as Steve and Stevie Smith. Please go back and edit your posts to ensure you cover all your bases.

I think you're right about Stevie being considered Posse by the faithful and he's always going to get a hero's welcome when he pulls into victory lane at Lincoln. Personally, I think he is Posse and has been for the most part now for quite a few years ... Zemco #1, CJB #19, and he did run the RAACE #19 around here quite a bit a few years ago. Sure he ran these cars on the road some, but he was not a full-time traveler and when he was racing, he was mostly at Lincoln, the Grove, Port Royal, etc. I know Stevie always made a point to run Ohio Speedweek, which he won twice, but no one could blame him because he runs Ohio very well.
Reminds me of when Keith Kauffman won the Ohio Speedweek in the late 1980s running the #880. He was mostly a Port Royal and Grove regular, but traveled when the money came calling. By no means was he a traveler that year other than mostly that Speedweek, Knoxville Nationals where he did win the Race of States feature in the #880 one year, and finished 3rd at the King's Royal in the #880 once.

I would stop short calling Stevie Smith a Posse member. He has run four races on PA turf this year, two with the All Stars. Yes, it is a local car but if Joey Saldana was in that car for 15 races, would he be a Posse member? Probably not. If Logan Schuchart would have won, would he be claimed?
In reality, Smith is more like an in-between. From here, racing at Williams Grove part time, but he hasn't been a true local since he was in the Zemco car. Tough one to call.

Don't listen to him, he thinks that Lincoln is a half mile track... :/

The official listing on that track has changed over the years. That is why I call it a small half mile. In reality, it is less. I get it.
