Ya, I saw a 10 ft laptop to TV HDMI cable at Walmart last night for 30-some bucks!! Damn! I haven't looked yet, but I'll bet I can find one a lot longer than 10 ft online, and a lot cheaper!
I like the idea of a projector for the races and having friends over - that sounds like a blast. Hope you can make that work!
I try to avoid Best Buy. They screwed me over on the one and only attempt I've ever made at shopping there on a Black Friday....never, ever again (for Best Buy or Black Friday). That is nuts man!

I got my 25 ft $9.99 Newegg.com

with all this info on streaming i have tossed around the idea of purchasing a projector to watch live streaming in the shop to entertain with, what are the do's and donts when i go to purchase a projector, i dont nessessarly need the latest and greatest, i see the sky is the limit it seems with no budget (much like racing), im just looking for something to get me in the ballpark and be happy with the video, i currently stream from my laptop to my flatscreen with a hdmi cable and seems to work well. just looking to display a larger screen with more peeps in atttendance.. the race is on somewhere let the beer flow here. thanks much!

I have transformed my 3 stall garage into a projector, surround sound viewing center for PPV races and anything that might be on TV that a group of race fans can enjoy. We probably use this setup 12 times a year or so.
The screen is apprximately 10 feet from corner to corner.
I went to the local Pawn Shop and found a really nice HD Projector they had marked for 359. They said if I had 200 cash on me I could take it home. I did.
For picture out of your laptop or PC to your projector you can just buy a VGA cable online to the length that you desire. VGA does full 1080p defition.
For watching Direct TV I bought a VGA to Component Video cable (5') online for less than 10 dollars to get HD video from your direct tv receiver to your projector.
For audio out of your Laptop/PC I bought a 20 dollar adapter. USB to Left/Right Audio. It simply converts the digital audio to a Left/Right signal and then you can buy your Left/Right audio cable to the length you need to your stereo receiver.
The main thing you fight with a projector is daylight and lighting in general. I block my windows and bought the 48' strings of rope lighting and have run that along the back wall and side walls for soft lighting that doesnt spill onto the projector wall too much. I used to try and use lamps but felt that too much light was spilling onto the projection wall.
Getting a group of 20 loud race fans together in a garage with a projector is a great great time. The one warning I have is the fact that a garage echos so much. I have recently installed fiberglass sound panels to the ceiling and back wall to combat the echo and they have helped out alot. I would suggest doing that also. We watched the short track nationals and world finals after I installed the sound panels and noticed a MAJOR improvement on volume and echo levels.
Hope that helps. Any other questions feel free to ask!

Since the subject of streaming races has come up has anyone tried streaming with a computer or laptop running on Linux? I jumped off the Microsoft spend, spend, spend bandwagon last month when my computer crashed and rebuilt a box that a friend gave me. Put the hard drives, memory card readers and added memory and loaded Ubuntu Studio edition so I can record with my guitars and keyboard. Loaded my Windows photo editing programs using the Wine emulator and I'm good to go for racing photos and music. Grand total $32 for a USB wireless keyboard and mose and $41 to add two more gigs of memory. Grand total invested $73 and it's a better box than the Compaq that fried. I'm not sure about streaming races though, no mention of Linux in regard to streaming races so I'm hesitant to spend the money on a broadcast and find out it won't work. Anyone streaming with a Linux system?

did your recent "pawn" purchase not have a hdmi port?,?, for picture and HD cant you just utilize the HDMI port if it is on your projector? the Audio signal will be ran thro my reciever, much of which needs a update in the shop as well, I might be pawn shopping soon as well, lol Larsonfan, we tune into Knox live religously, if your into winged cars, that is theeee exact reason I started streaming saturday nights, i believe i only missed two maybe three nights this past season, I litterally dodge doing anything on saturday nights unless its a rainout,,, and for that I have my "knox rainout"(weather report) texted to my phone.. pshhh, dont tell anyone tho! its our little secret....

Correct. No hdmi port so I took video only to the projector and split the audio off to the stereo.
We watched knoxville 3 or 4 times last year on the projector and it worked smooth.
Happy pawning!

good to hear, Ive tuned into Knox pretty regularly, dirtvission seems a bit glitchy, STN last year was a pretty good feed, I cant think of anything better to do besides stream the vid if you cant be there in person, besides, you spend less than half the dough to watch the event, be carefull tho, your parties invited must get the shhhht it.. , or remove yourself treatment, if they choose to ignore the race, that is my largest dillema.. its all good tho.
