i don't know about that, but in top 5 finishes other than first place, pittman creamed donny. yes donny won more, but when each of them wasn't winning, pitman earned about 2000 more 2nd-5th place points. that is out performing someone. donny did a heck of a job closing the gap, but to have him cry foul because he got beat is no way for the supposed face of the sport to act. the mark of a true champion is to be just as gracious in defeat and in victory.

wow, he got 2000 more 2nd-5th place points, who, i guess the first place points don't count at all then??
My point is that EVERY position counts. If you figure up points based on finishing position only and forget about qualifying alltogether, you'd get another side of the same old "Tired" argument.
The season is over, Pittman won based on how the point system is set up (right or wrong).
I feel that there is not enough emphasis put on winning (and that includes heat races) and PASSING cars.
My suggested point breakdown would be as follows:
Cars qualifying all get 1 point for taking TT, 1 bonus point for quick time.
Heat races inverted 8 (if 3 heat races) and 6 go to feature and you must finish in top 5 to make the dash (dash cars are lined up straight up by time trials, no invert), finish 6th and the best you can start is 7th in the feature (only 2 cars from each heat go to the dash)
Heat races inverted by 6 (if 4 heat races) and 5 go to the feature and you must finish in top 4 to make the dash
Heat races inverted by 6 (if 5 heat races) and top 4 go to the feature and you must finish in top 4 to make the dash
Heat races award 20 points to win, 18 for second, etc. and BONUS points of 1 point for every position advanced.
Feature pays 160 points to win, 150 for 2nd, 148 for 3rd and down by 2 every position. BONUS points of 1 point for every car passed (So the the guy finishing 2nd could get 160 points, but he'd have to have started 11th to do so).
It's time to start rewarding cars for PASSING (which is what racing is all about IMO) other cars and make it so EVERY race has something on the line (not just the feature).
Congrats to Pittman and the entire KKR Team, winning a title with all the pressure on you the last few weeks (Schatz had nothing to lose by taking chances or throwing new set-ups at the car, Pittman had everything to lose).
Congrats to Schatz on an unbelievable season (23 wins, $450,000+ in purse $$, Knoxville Nationals win from the B main, Brad Doty Classic winner, WG Summer Nationals win among those).
We the fans got the best case scenario this year (tight point battle, EPIC charge from the back of the pack at the biggest race of the season, good car counts for teh most part, great racing, etc.). Hoping 2014 is just as exciting (I remember the 1980's when the point title was decided by the Knoxville Nationals and Steve Kinser winning 27 of the last 28 races of the year in 1987).
