Had the caution NOT come out, Gordon was in the chase. I think it is a legitimate beef.
|
the thing is you have to understand what MWR got penalized for. they didn't get penalized for the yellow. no matter what anyone argues, nascar could not conclude the yellow was intentional. MWR got penalized for bringing the 55 down pit road.
both gordon and newman still had a chance to race their way in after the yellow.
gordon was still in the chase after the restart. what took gordon out of the chase was pitting the 55 to give logano one more spot that gained him the one more point over gordon, and took gordon out of the top 10 in points.
so i guess if you think about it, gordon has a point, because the reason MWR was penalized was for bringing the 55 down pit road, and that is what put gordon out.
still nascar didn't just take truex out and put newman in. they penalized all the MWR cars and those lost points took truex out and put newman in.
in a way nascar screwed up more by trying not to arbitrarily add and subtract people from the chase, than by just taking out truex and putting in gordon.
the way i see it, newman still had every chance to race into the chase, even after the spin. his 39 team didn't perform to get him out of the pits, and the 14 team didn't make sure they didn't beat newman out of the pits.
people pull over all the time and give positions and let people lead to get points. pitting vickers was no different than having vickers let logano go by on the track.
gordon had raced his way in up to the point vickers came down pit road. so i kind of don't blame gordon for being upset.

Funny you have 4 posts and two of them have been on NASCAR threads and both of them mention feces.. This is the other post and it was about Jeff Gordon.

Hey, I don't know if this is true but I "heard" Jeffy-Poo broke his mirror when he swung his purse at one of Boyer's crew!

The "Chase" shouldn't exist in the first place. Every other racing sanction runs their season from beginning to end without reshuffling the deck with ten to go. The Chase is a spectacle created for television in an attempt to compete with the start of the NFL season. Before this incident the Chase was a joke and since last week's on track incident and subsequent discipline it's an even bigger joke. ;)

i agree.
when you think about the driver who finishes 13 in points in the first 26 event (this year it happens to be jeffie) could win the last 10 and still finish no better than 13th. the teams from 13th to 20th who might had a chance to get into the top 10 have no chance to.
the NHRA started doing their "count down" that is kind of like the chase.
you have teams doing everything they can to try to get their guys in the chase. i don't blame MWR one bit for pitting vickers. teams use strategy all the time in events, and that is just one of them. like i said i don't see pitting vickers as being any worse than having vickers let logano pass him on the track, because that is what he basically did. so if front row let logano go by to affect the chase and penske was a part of it, what does nascar do? they just fined all the cars of one owner 50 points and the owner a ton of money for doing the same thing. so what do they do to these other teams who were "fixing" the race?
if bowyer did spin on purpose, that is taking it too far.
what happend to "boys have at it?"

Just return to the old points system. this system of NASCAR just allows them to pick who they want to be their "champ". It will be a GM now just Chevy and will never a Toyota cuz they will find some nit pick reason to penalize (oh yah there was jet fuel on the carb intake type stuff). Look at when the yellow flags come out and who gets the "lucky dog" lap back. I don't even need a crystal ball.

if that happens it would put things right back where everyone says they should have been in the first place.
things have a way of working themselves out....if nascar does't screw it up even more.
to be fair they need to do to team penske and front row just what they did to team MWR. penalize all their cars 50 pts and fine the owner 300K. put the crew chiefs on probation and suspend the head instigators like they did ty norris. in this case they could suspend penske himself because he was the one up on the spotter stand negotiating.

Actually, it is a forum for sprint car fans. And sometimes, sprint car fans have other interests too. Funny though, the topic of the thread was labeled clearly-- "NASCAR penalties Part 2" If you weren't interested in Nascar, why did you check it out?

well they just set a precedent with MWR for "fixing" the race among themselves to get their own car in the chase.
seems to me they should do a least the same thing to people who bought and sold a position to another team.
so if nascar doesn't do something they will sure look bad, especially after they made such a big deal about the 55 and said they would not tolerate stuff like that.

now tim cindric is trying to say penske didn't conspire to do anything.
he says there was no bribe. well there might not have been a bribe but it seems like there was a position sold and it seems penske was doing the shopping.
since there was no radio discussion by team penske directly, they are trying to weasle out of it.
well someone was up there from penske asking for the spot and told the 38 team they would get something for it.

My father-in-law just reminded me, in the '70's and 80's is was a common practice in the last few races, especially the last race of the NASCAR season for a car owner with a driver in contention, to pad the field with new team cars and then have them drop out early in the race, assuring the driver in the championship would gain extra points. He thinks some of the car owners were: Jr. Johnson and Rick Hendrick. Ergo, fixing points has been an accepted practice for years, if you are the correct car owner.

Was Cindric even there? If not, he is just holding the company line. Even if he was there, he is doing just that. What do you expect him to say?
