I wouldnt be suprised to see the trucks at Knoxville and the Nationwide cars at Newton in a double header---JMO!

ANY dirt track hosting a NASCAR race would be prepared exactly as Eldora was prepared last night.  Keep in mind those cars/trucks run full windshields.  Unless NASCAR would waive that rule, there's no chance of seeing more "typical" track conditions.

You beat me to it. This is an observation that is 100% correct. You simply cannot have tacky clay loading up a full windshield that wont ever work.

I didnt have any issue with the surface prep spare the fact that people who have no familiarity with dirt racing will think thats how dry it is. It was exactly as I suspected it would be and quite frankly surpassed all asphalt surfaces for achievable racing action.

Newman and Larson battling skillfully at the end was fantastic. Dillon in my opinion was gifted the race with the timing of the yellow but I'm not saying he wasn't capable of winning without the caution but it certainly played directly into his hand. Larson had passed him back but apparently didn't make it to the timing loop before they waved the flag. Without a doubt Larson was the show just as logical race fans knew he would be.

Cheers!

My Guess is that if NASCAR adds another dirt track it will be the Dirt Track at Charlotte....  Unfortunately that is a terrible racing surface with the worst dirt ever.... Won't be able to see it on TV because the dust will cover up the racing....  It's a very nice facility other than that and they certainly know how to promote and run races...

Doubt if Knoxville will ever be in the mix for a race because they don't have anyone who can make deals with people like NASCAR who would expect their calls to be returned.  The idea of a 2 Day double header where racing on dirt at Knoxville is followed by racing at Newton is very unlikely because the people who run both of those tracks can't stand each other even when it could help both tracks to cooperate....

I thought it was a fun race and I enjoyed it from start to finish. Now as far as the track condition were concerned with those heavy trucks and summer weather, it was exactly as I thought it would be and probably what they were looking for; no dust.. There is no way mere mortals could have had a tacky track with a real cushion under those conditions anyway... Actually the track was not a whole lot different than what a lot of winged show tracks look like during the main.... if I remember correctly.:)

Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

Knoxville would be good because they would have seating capacity and the track would offer good racing and not that much dust. Could be a real spectical for the Nationwide cars.

Other option would be for Bruton Smith to tear the surface off one of his useless 1.5 mile tracks and put down a nice black clay like Knoxville. Speeds wouldn't be that bad since they'd never get around the corners if they're going too fast. Preferably one of the tracks with not as much banking to make them really drive the corners. The tri/quad-oval would be great as well. It would put a lot more control back into the drivers hands and be a great spectical.

They should throw some dirt on top of North Wilkesboro and race there.

Are guys have thrown ASCOT clay on the ORANGE SHOW SPEEDWAY in SAN BERNADINO. So bring them on and get rid of that piece of junk california speedway.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

It is what it is (NASCAR trucks) and the production exceeded my expectations.  I thought it was a classy act inverviewing Steve Kinser, Jack Hewitt and Joey Saldana.  Bloomquist got a lot of air time and I really expected him to have a better night and possibly pull off a win with those long segments and trucks being somewhat like a Late Model.  Regardless of the outcome it beat the usual Wednesday night programming.  I probably would never travel to see cars (I mean trucks)  lumbering around at Street Stock speed but the side by side racing was pretty good.  Towards the end it started looking like a slick half mile Darlington with everybody hugging the wall and not being able to pass but I expected dry slick and that's what they gave them.

I'd rank the hype right up there with any of the biggest races.  The racing wasn't in warp speed like Sprints but there was plenty of three and four wide and some good battles.  The production was one of the best I've ever seen from a dirt track (factoring in that it was geared towards NASCAR).  Like I said, it is what it is and what they offered brought some attention to dirt racing so that's good.

P.S.  The only thing that would have made it more entertaining is if Danica had a truck ride last night.  It would have been priceless to come on here and read all the bitchin' and bashin'.  ;)

Anyone else notice GoodYear built them a bulletproof tire.

I thought for sure there would be a yellow for a flat on the long green run at the begining of the race. There wasn't even a flat in 6 hours of practice.

Nascar can't use the excuse of not having a good dirt tire anymore. I hope they have more on dirt.

I just don't see Knoxville in the mix.  I can't imagine what would happen to the walls at Knoxville being hit by a heavy stock car / truck.  I know they stand up well to 410's getting thrown pretty hard at them, but do you think they could take a truck with a stuck throttle?  JMHO

it might be best that one of "their own" won at Eldora...helping to demystify "dirt racing" to perhaps the clown-like comments during the broadcast.

miracles do happen...contrasting the footage of a beaming Newman with his Daytona interviews was what struck me.

Too bad they couldn't reopen Altamont and dump a bunch of dirt on it. That would be way cool!

Loved the racing on dirt but I do think they should hold the next one on a track where they know how to prepare it for good racing, say like Knoxville? Dry slick surface is NOT conducive to much passing as was evident last night. Knoxville can get their track prepared so that there truly are 3 grooves & then we'll see some real racing...IMHO.

Lol right, the winner only came from what, 21st?

  • Return to Eldora likely: NASCAR still is evaluating its first dirt race in more than 40 years, but senior vice president Steve O'Donnell strongly indicated Thursday the Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway will return."We felt it overdelivered on everything," Senior VP Steve O'Donnell said of Wednesday night's Camping World Truck Series race won by Austin Dillon. "It was a terrific turnout, and we were really happy with how the competitors performed, so all in all a great night for NASCAR and the sport. We still want to go through the garage area and meet with team owners and competitors and get their feedback, and we want to see the ratings. So far everything we've seen, it's something we'd certainly entertain doing again for 2014." Speed said the race received a household rating of 1.2, making it the 10th most-watched trucks race ever on the network. With a total of 1.4 million viewers, it was the most watched sports program of the day on cable. Its NCWTS Setup show had 1 million viewers, the most-watched prerace show in Speed history. The first national series run on dirt since Sept. 30, 1970 drew a sellout crowd of more than 17,000 to Tony Stewart's half-mile oval in rural Rossburg, Ohio. Ratings were due Thursday afternoon, but O'Donnell said Eldora drew a record social media response for a truck race, according to NASCAR's Fan Engagement Center. Both "Eldora" and "Norm Benning," a 61-year-old who earned the final slot in the main event via the last-chance heat race, were trending nationally on Twitter during the race. Fans in the Eldora grandstands were chanting at NASCAR officials Wednesday night race to bring a Sprint Cup event to the track. O'Donnell said there was no imminent plan to put the Nationwide or Cup series on dirt, but that it might be feasible for stock cars to slide around Eldora as the heavy trucks were Wednesday night. "We've been trying to get to shorter tracks with the trucks in general, and you look at trucks and the dirt, and it felt more of a natural fit," he said. "Certainly I think a Nationwide car could do that, but the focus has been trucks and will continue to be for the near future and keep that as a unique opportunity for the truck series." O'Donnell compared Eldora's place in NASCAR with the NHL's Winter Classic and said there'd been no discussions with other dirt tracks about hosting a NASCAR national series. "I think it's probably a little premature," he said. "It's something that's certainly unique and special, and we want to keep that element of it with whatever we do."(USA Today)(7-25-2013)

You could do the same thing at Texas.

You cant be serious. 46 cars passed in the top 5 alone.
