Vande, I run a Staffing Agency specific to trucking and have around 45 - 50 drivers working for me at any given time. Almost all are paid hourly and they also received 9 Stat holidays as per Canadian law. There was a story on CNN the other night that started this whole debate. In the story they discussed Stat holidays around the world and it was revealed that the US Federal Gov't has zero stat holidays mandated but it was up to each company to make that decision. This caught my owners attention as he HAS to pay his 50 employees a Stat holiday because the Gov't here mandates it. I have been trying to explain to him all week that each individual State controls much more than he thinks and just because it is zero federally most people still get holiday pay. Whew, hope this makes sense, now Go Sammy.....

Wow! From fuzzy photo's to organizing Truckers. And wasn't there some bartending between? Get one of your drivers to deliver a load down Tulsa way for the ChiliBowl.

Vande, It was on 1 of those lamenated dohickey's they had hanging in the office. I think alot of it is where they are out of, Central is out of Michigan. The place I work for now is out of Minnesota & it seems they are inline with Ohio.

Mspn, How is the trucking industry up there in conjunction with laws, Being there are different Provinces. Down here States have say, Even though it is federal. That is supposed to change at some time or another.

Lets see, I get paid holidays for xmas, xmas eve, new years, memorial day, good friday, 4th of July, Labor day, Thanksgiving and black friday. 9 days in total. I believe they all come from my employers discretion, not mandated by the government. Government employees get more paid holidays like Columbus day and MLK day.

And do you have some sort of DOT up there that will stop trucks & inspect them.

Ha, I'm sure the laws on full nudity changes from one Canadian province and territory to the other, but maybe Mike can give you directions to the one closest to ya. Oh, and you can leave your body armor at home, they don't have the bad habit of shooting each other much up in Canada... How un-American is that! LOL

Roger, the bartending was on and off for over 30 years at the Horse Racetrack across the street from where I currently work, best gig I ever had, worked there all the years I lived in the US as well, best buddy ran the place. Lots of free food and drinks and many, many good times there.

John, we have the MOT, Ministry of Transport and they are often a royal pain in the @$$. They come down hard on drivers if they feel like it and give warnings on days they're in the right mood, almost like border guards but maybe not quite as arrogant. Where we are different than the US in trucking is in drug testing. All my drivers have to be tested before they haul in the US but not in Canada. They get tested immediately after an accident up here but not before for the most part.

As to the Dancing Girls, the original one in this city is two blocks West of me but I haven't made a visit since the 70's, c'est la vie.....

So does the US. The laws on that vary from state to state. In PA the full nudity establishments cannot serve alcohol but you can BYOB(much cheaper anyway). FL and NV have full nude. VA you can't even show a nipple. Not that I would ever visit such places. LOL

Same here with the DOT, Most I've dealt with are pretty cool, Never been stopped by another states DOT other than Ohio. I was talking to the guys where I work today & told them if I was a DOT Inspector I would be all over the trucks that look like junk. Most I have seen from Canada are nice looking equipment. I've been driving a 2005 Freightliner Columbian that is automatic (Thats what they had when I started) I'm sure I'll get a upgrade in a couple of years. Did drive a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia 10 speed that didn't even have but about a 1000 miles on it when mine broke down. I liked that truck.

Some of you probably remember the place I used to work for & bitched to high heaven about, Well they called me this Spring after I'd been outta there for 2 years & told me they had a truck available if I was interested. Told them NO THANKS & that I was pretty happy where I'm at.
