He's not Superman. Luck goes both ways for everybody. Hes a great kid with tremendous talent. If you wer there last night and watching him he was the.show and was going to give Brown and Mccarl somebody else to race with if the problem hadn't developed.

This kid's racing accomplishments at his age, at this point in his career are absolutely incredible... winning huge races in not just one division or two but in several. He also shows a lot of class and humility for his age. None of this means he's going to win the Nationals, but it's hard not to like him himo, unless you're just a hater to be a hater

Very impressive run, yes, but let's not get crazy. He would not have reached Brown, McCarl, or Maeschen if he hadn't blow up (my opinion). Of the 17 positions picked up, 8 were due to spins or attrition. On 2nd lap, Bunton, Madsen, and Moeller all got together ending Moeller's night and sending Madsen to the back. Bunton's car was a hobbling roadblock after that. Kaeding and Maeschen were both front runners who dropped out with engine problems. And when Brad Sweet spun and jumped the burm he did so right in front of Dobmeier and Zomer, who both almost stopped to miss him and Larson blew around all three. I get it, he still picked up 17 spots quickly, but he didn't drive past them all.

Kind of ironic another "up and comer" from 6-7 years ago, Geoff Dodge, was at the track yesterday also. His opportunity to move up didn't go as he planned. Lesson learned for Larson, keep the expectations under control.

I don't give 2 rats asses about how much money ANY of the teams have @ K-ville. All i care about is how good a person qualifies! The Nationals is all about Qualifying. If you're in the top 5 you're sitting pretty, if you time in 38th, might as well load up and go find a local show to race that weekend!
do it in the dirt

Just a quick question pertaining to Larson.
Who/what kind of funding does he have behind him? I'm guessing it is nearly unlimited.
|
Unlimited yet they cant seem to keep nosewings on the car........Cant wait for the Nationals time.
I don't aim to please.
I aim to hit the target.

I think we tend to forget on forums that comments regarding a favorite driver is from a person NOT the racer themselves.
Kyle seems pretty humble and obviously is fun to watch, therefore I cheer for him.
Who cares how a driver is funded? Will's jealously towards Kyle is laughable.
I feel lucky to be able to witness this fantastic driver as others have stated Kyle's career probably won't remain on dirt very long.
I expected him to be 10-15 car Saturday at Knoxville with the competition there. His first few laps were not that smooth but with in a few laps of his heat he drove like butter.
Was disappointed to hear he got DQ'd in his heat but was hoping he'd do well in the B to make it to the A.
From the back he looked good on a fairly heavy track. Definitely smooth on the bottom and fast on top.
If it was not for the front wing I think we could of seen a 3 way battle for the lead as there were plenty of yellows helping bunch up the field again.
I have high expectations for him at Knoxville although if he doesn't do well...that doesn't tarnish what he has ACCOMPLISHED already.

My question is would he have gotten DQ'd in the feature too?
The tire rule is that you have to run the same RR tire for TT, Heat and Feature.
He was DQ'd for changing tires after time trials and running a new one during his heat.
They can change tires for the B main, but they have to put the other one back on for the feature. My question would be: Did they, or did they run a new tire for the feature too? (my bet is "yes"). Either way, he had an advantage over every other car on the track, because if he did run his time trial tire (which was stamped), it had 8 less laps on it than everyone else's right rear.
Either way, I was impressed with his drive from the back to 5th (although many of those were due to attrition and yellows). Not sure he would have tracked down Brown and McCarl, but maybe he would have.

It takes sponsors that BELIEVE in you: Kinser Bass Pro Shop, Swindell Big Game, Saldana Great Clips, Schatz STP .
All these drivers and Larson as you mention, it takes talent and sponsors that want to be associated with them.
No different in NASCAR, Indy and other types of racing. Sponsors want to be with the best that is why they have the best equipment.
FYI money, a driver with great driving skills and a good crew chief makes a car go fast and win. You can have all the money with the best equipment but if you dont have the other ingredients it will be tough to win!
For any driver competiting in the Nats it's tough. Thru the years there have been many great drivers that miss the A main. You need luck to be on your side and everything to go just right.
|
+1 AND the driver needs experience and lots of laps @ Knoxville too. Let's not forget you have to run GREAT on TWO nights, not just one. Pluse we all know how much the track can change from one night to the next!
I wish him well but I'd be surprised if he makes the A mani.

Not always true. Lance Dewease qualified 37th last year and finished 8th in the A Main on Saturday.

I'm not sure how the format will work but it sounds like if you have an off night in qualifying you can make up for it Friday night.

Stranger things have happened... if his car is fast; his car at Pa. Speedweeks didn't seem to run really well....

I'll be impressed if he makes the A.
Their are only a few that have a legitimate chance of winning Sat night, he's not one of them.
|
how do you like him now?
there is a very good chance that after tomorrow you will have to officially admit you are impressed.
to indy and beyond!!

it is beginning to seem his talent is what is nearly unlimited.
there are plenty of people with plenty of funding who aren't achieving his results.
hopefully he has plenty of time to achieve everything within his potential.

I am AMAZED at how grounded, realistic, and humble he is in his interviews. It may be fair to say he is doing something that nobody his age could handle, and that is handling the pressure of becoming who he is going to be - one of the greats for sure.
The greatest knowledge is to know that you know nothing
at all.

It's just how quick he is racking them up and, yet how "cool" he is no matter what he wins just a really nice kid who can really wheel a sprint car.
Hammerdown!

The fact that he can pass a car in a race with a wing is a tremendous accomplishment. That puts him above a large percentage of the field.
This guy is the best racer to come along in some time, in my book.
His skill is a great ability to read the track and take advantage of passing angles. One of the most intelligent racers I have seen.
My money is on him for the win Saturday night.

he has to beat names like Schatz, Kinser, Stewart, lasoski. i say b-main at best. no offense but even great drivers like Sides have issues. it's nationals. just my 2 cents.
|
Kicked Schatz ass. Actually Larson and Heskin kicked Schatz ass. So there Larson has just a good of chance as anyone.
