Something I thought was a bit strange was the times of hot laps and time trials. The quickest time of the night was in the 1st hot lap session, then the quickest time in the second hot lap session was slower still and finally Sammy's quick time was the slowest of the three and miles off of the track record, huh??? Confused as to why Brian wasn't running, I have seen him look great there before???? What's up with that?

When a teenager with very little experience puts a whooping on the big boys last fall at the Gold Cup you know the times they are a changin'. Then another CA local pounds them once and beats them a 2nd time in the same week I think the shine of beating the big boys isn't quite as bright. Of course there was the neutral ground of Florida where the PA boys were obliterated but it's May and that's already forgotten. A great win for Double D's and it's nice to see how many other locals ran so well, it just may be the start of something new after the big 3 have dominated for more than a decade, it's way past due. Should be a great weekend....
|
I recall how much you enjoy facts, so: Out of the 16 Posse cars in last nights A-Main, 3 of them were in Florida (Hafertepe, Rahmer, Pittman - and 2 of those 3 are debated pretty hard on this board). Obviously, a very strong representation down there. Those guys account for 1 win in 25 races this year in PA.
Thought all along the Posse would actually have a better chance at Lincoln then the Grove. You don't need a $50,000 engine to run up front at Lincoln. Guys like Nouse and McIntyre who had strong runs last night usually don't even get to run at the Grove when the WoO are in town. I expect the WoO will be much stronger tonight and the Posse will be adding Hodnett, Layton, and a few other strong names to the field that weren't at Lincoln. Should be fun night for those that witness it.

conditions were as bad as a day race...after all that rain the night before.
the track was totally worn out in hotlaps - way too many laps each session - WoO usually gets 3 laps per session at the Grove - who ever was calling the shots in the tower received a back gate racing grade from the fans for the conditions / laps per session / 2 lap TT format...conditions were a total joke.
not on twitter but i bet the travelling drivers were not happy with it either.
the victory lane speech was worth the price of admission:

Slaughter by the Posse. I can't recall when I've seen so many WOO drivers out of the top ten. Nevertheless, congrats to the Posse

Had the live lap tracker going during the A-Main. Pretty sure the fastest lap was turned by Dietrich around 15.5, Dewease was the only other person close, and everyone else's fast laps were in the 16s or higher. Typically, that would get you beaten pretty soundly in a 358 race.

Heard outlaws were at lincoln last night but didn't see any in top ten. Did they forget to show up?

2:00 mark in the interview
Wayne Harper: "the world of outlaws, you know you just beat the best drivers in the world?"
Double D: "yeah but a...not on these tracks in Pennsylvania"
then the microphones overload with victory lane cheers...

No wonder people don't like Sammy Swindell with his chicken $hit during a caution. I watched him pounding on the car in front of him ( 6B Brad McClellend ) I guess to try and un-nerve the guy and that didn't work The shame was the wreck that was caused when McClellend got fed up with Sammy and brake checked him then everyone piled into Sammy and the rest. Like Kinser said so many times, "One of Sammy's chicken $hit moves". What a great driver Sammy is but has to do that crap.

It was certainly a butt whooping, similar to the 2009 May Williams Grove shows where 1 Outlaw was in the dash and only 1 was in the top 10 at the end of the night.
It was definitely track knowledge and recent experience that carried the day last night, (and before the PA pride get all out of hand, what other place does Cory Haas and Kevin Nouse come from 20th and back to get top 10s against the WoO? Nowhere else)
I would hope to see a much better performance tonight and more importantly tomorrow from the travellers.

I can't imagine DD will go out to the Nationals. That's nothing at all against the Nationals, but it looks like Dietrich is running for the Lincoln title. He stayed at Lincoln when the ASCoC was at Port Royal a couple weeks ago, and was already leading the Lincoln points going into last night.
Dewease said after the race that Dietrich has been the fastest car in PA this year, and definitely the fastest car at Lincoln this year.

So....wait. It was the track again? Now, the Outlaws are baffled by Lincoln, too? According to this board, I always thought it was the uniqueness of two straightaways and fours corners at the Grove that left them thoroughly confused.

Nope, certainly not the track, The Grove has a life of its own but Lincoln is no different than lots out there. I am surprised to find out how 'dry' it was and who was making that call. Sammy, Saldana and Schatz love fast tracks, the faster the better, when it's dry slick they lose much of their advantage. The Outlaws sure could use some of the guys that used to run for them in the past, Jason Myers, Tim Kaeding, Shane Stewart, Terry McCarl and Brian Brown has improved a whole bunch also. Those guys are pretty good on the bullrings and might have made a difference last night, tonite anything could happen and it won't surprise me a bit....

I thought the dryness would benefit the WoO myself, that's how they always set up the grove when they're there too? Weekly PA dhows always have a heavier track then woo shows. Lately Lincoln hasn't been heavy, but it has had a big cushion that drivers could bounce off of and really run hard. A heavy track migh benefit the WoO from a power standpoint against all but the top teams, but I think most PA guys would like it like that too. I'm still waiting for the track that shows the rest of the country why the 21 is called the edge, and I'm not even a big fan of his, but when there's a cushion, he's downright breathtaking

Dude, really?
Does this group of world beaters do this anywhere else? If it were capable of winning $10k races anywhere in the country, (or at least on the Eastern seaboard) why would it be happy to run for $3500 each week? Of course it's the home track advantage. That doesn't take anything away from the accomplishment, but it does do something to explain it.

Haha, Certainly makes a ton of sense to skip a race that pays $150k to win for a track title that pays what?

For years and years, the claim on here was that the Outlaws can instantly adjust to every track in America except one. Now, the fast and furious backpedaling is that the locals who can only drive one track have just too much of an advantage because Lincoln is also just too unique?

Single, just because one guy says that doesn't make it true, come on! Stats over the years have shown what happens at the Grove and they are unbelievable when looked at closely. The Posse were full value of their success last night just like the OH guys dominated Attica not that long ago and the CA guys did well out there. This isn't your old Outlaws, well actually, this may just be that, your old Outlaws, Sammy and Steve are mid 50's and have nothing to prove anymore. The track is NOT the excuse last night, they just got hammered by a group that were full value for their finishes, tonite may be a different story, wouldn't coount on it though....

Another spanking of the WoO! Congrats To DD #48! No where else in the country will ever compete with the WoO boys like the POSSE can!
