Wow, this used to be one of the best tracks in california. Think the suprised driver didnt show up like the track prep guy. Dust in hot laps will tell you that the track is a reconfigured dirt track. Then to acknowledge the problem by putting water on it after time trails when the track was dusty in time trials and not tear it up is meaningless. 2 weeks ago lap times for the 360s was 12.3 in time trials while in mains it only dropped of by a few tenths quick time in main was 12.5.... Now fast forward to the 410s with the outlaws last night, and 12.4 was quick time. Yea hope things get better for the GOLD CUP race of champions.

Tonight's race is rained out without a drop of rain falling. What an incredable lack of effort by SDS this entire weekend. You deserve to loose the fans you just lost.

the weather reports for tonight in chico are UGLY. everyone has known that fri just might be the only night the show got in, just like tulare last week.
to rip them now for what has a strong possibility to turn out to be the correct call just seems like just piling on and doesn't make sense.
with that said, what the heck was the thinking to flatten out the track?????!!! what was the intent and of what benefit was it thought to be?
if it is correct (and i have no reason to think it isn't) that WRG sub-leased the track and were responsible for the promotion and and preparation, it is hard to place all the blame on SDS staff for track prep.
but...you can blame SDS for giving them a POS to work with in the first place.
oh well, i have no dog in the fight, but still hate to see the racers and fans have to be the ones that pay for the mistakes and bad judgment of others.
to indy and beyond!!

The idea in flattening and widening it out was said to me cause I had to ask that very question was given to me like this, that the track developed a bowl like shape in it and wouldnt take dirt. Last i heard dirt stuck to dirt, but that was the point in it. And when I asked about the substance that used to be added to the track that would cost around 10k and made it really sticky is that the World of Outlaws dont allow that anymore. I held back my opinion last week but its getting worse before its getting better. Again, hope inprovements are implimented

thanks for the info.
sounds fishy to me as well but i really have no idea about earth work and related stuff.
still i do know there are plenty of other tracks that have a bowl shape that seem to be able to be resurfaced and keep their configuration.
sounds like bruton smith isn't the only guy who might have screwed up his track trying to "make it better"!
oh by the way that "substance" that used to be added to make the track sticky could have very well been some type of liquid laundry or dish washing detergent, or even powdered tide. tracks used to use stuff like that all the time. sometimes you could see the bubbles coming out of top of the water truck! lol.
they would use the soap when preparing the track to drive the moisture into it, then during the race night they would mix lime in the water truck to pull the moisture back up.
to indy and beyond!!

It's cheaper than making a taller turn 4 catch fence which Stevie Wonder could see is desperately needed is the only reason I can think of.

Pilling on? The weather report?? The correct call??? WTF????
Spoken like someone who committed nothing but some bandwidth to this weekend of racing. This was a two day show. The fans and teams are already here and had been since Friday. Calling off a race for a weather report is fine when no one has traveled yet but that isn't the case here. They called off a race with the majority of participants and fans already in place for (as the World of Outlaws tweeted) inclement weather. Inclement weather in March! They choose that verbiage carefully because it wasn't raining. It still wasn't raining at 10pm. If you were here you may have felt their was a "strong possibility" they were not making the correct call.
The fans sitting behind me came from Canada to experience their first taste of racing at the famous Silver Dollar Speedway. After sitting through a Friday where the track did next to nothing to fix an embarrassing race surface, then have the second day cancelled for something that didn't happen, they ain't coming back Buzz. Their not going home to tell their friends about how great an experience they had at the famed Silver Dollar Speedway. They don't care who's name was on that promotion, they feel like and got treated like chumps. They'll go see another WoO race but not here.
SDS has been under fire on racing boards for a few years now. I've taken the high road many times during these debates but they lost me now. I have rarely missed a Gold Cup, Mini or NARC/GSC/KWS race there since West Capital was turned into a truck yard. My opinions aren't based off of this one weekend. I agree with something Henry posted in another thread. This is no longer a travel worthy facility for me. The area of Chico has lost my racing dollars for at least this year and I bet they don't care.
Oh, and in case you didn't already know, I'm not not looking for your permission or acceptance on who's to blame. I'm pretty sure you aren't looking for mine either.
Next stop... Merced! Weather permitting.

I live aprox 35 miles south of chico and no rain till after midnight. I feel sorry for people who have traveled long distances to see the circus and ring leaders. The friday track was the worst I had ever seen in all my years of going to chico, you would think they would have tried to make up for it on sat,but no, I guess no one gives a shit any more. go figure. They have lost me, dont know if I will even attend a outlaw race again. Why would you dump water on a sealed over track, thats an obvious mistake by someone that has no idea how to prepare a track. Like I said, you would think they would try to make it right on sat. but...............

Fans who have purchased tickets can exchange the value of Saturday’s ticket against ticket purchases at either of the following World of Outlaws events: Merced Speedway next Friday, Calistoga Speedway next Saturday or the Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway Sept. 6-8.
Or they can return the tickets to the address on the back for a refund of the Saturday portion of the show.

WARNING: IF YOUR NOT GOING TO GO TO THE OUTLAW EVENT NEXT WEEK DEMAND A REFUND.
A couple years ago we got screwed. Mini was rained out and they told us that we could use our tickets for any JPM event. Including Gold Cup. Why would you pay the price for an Outlaw Race then use it on a Normal Friday Night Show. So we held on to them. Come Gold Cup they told us No at the gate. We could not use them because there was a new Promoter. This was total bullshit. I know for a fact that it was a name change for leagal reasons. Robbie was still in the pit booth. John was still riding around on the quad calling the shots. So after driving two plus hours we had to go find a bank to get cash so we could get in .I have never gone back since. One in our group was even racing that night. So all they have to do is change a name and they get to keep all your money.Don't be a sucker like we were.

sounds to me like most people were already pissed off. so the people you speak of were going to go home with a bad taste in their mouth any way.
i only said that most people already knew there was a strong possibility that sat might be rained out and that fri might be the only night that got in. i also correctly stated that the weather reports were ugly for sat and that at the time i posted it could have very well turned out to be the correct call.
here is the deal, if it would have rained at 6pm and people who didn't have two day tickets had spent the money to buy their tickets people would have been complaining that the event should have been called.
you seem to just be pissed that you were not granted the possibility to bitch about another terrible race.
one other thing, no one is asking for or requiring anyone's permission to give their opinions here.
oh, you said you were going to merced....weather permitting. you are worried about inclement weather.........in march? shame on you.
you presented your opinion, i responded with mine.
no need to get so huffy.

Didn't think i would get under your skin with that "not looking for your permission" comment but your post came across to me like you were directly telling me, who or what to blame. I thought your skin was thicker them mine, my mistake. I was also under the impression you weren't there and was just relaying second hand information.
You may proceed with your closing statement counselor. I'm done.

As with every sporting event some games, matches, contests or races are good and some are not. The Giants, A's, 49ers and Raiders have a stinker once in a while. I'd not flog the Outlaws too badly. Simply give up on SDS....a track that continually demonstrates indifference.

I'm in so cal and we've seen our share of tracks close . So good bad or indifferent we all should support every track that we enjoy watching our sprint cars race on .
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Let me repeat my post, The
absolutely Worst sprint car race I have been too in 40 years I will not
be at Calastoga Going to take some time to forget this Joke of a Race
Only yellow and they start single file due too track conditions, Well the track conditions were the same when they started the race. Seem to make the rules as they go.
Should have only charged $20 for ticket due too track conditions
No I wash my hands of Chico an WOO
