Jeff, they also have the Tulsa Shootout the week before with a 1000+ competitors to help pay for all the things you mentioned in your post.So I don't think that their not making a pretty good profit in those two weeks.

Ok, now we know what the purse is, and we know how many competitors. Now tell me what the costs are to put on the show. When you get that info we can have an informed discussion.

I love the entertainment value of the entitlement mentality...if you want to help out by awarding the winner or last place finisher an extra $500, there is nothing stopping you!

let me give the occupy clowns a little tip...if you "really" think midgets need a higher paying race in January - get off your lazy bitchin @sess and schedule a race somewhere else and pay a higher purse...until YOU CAN DO IT - YOU DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT IT TAKES.

If tickets for spectators run $185 for Chili Bowl Week (I didn't count Tuesday, because I've never heard how many people actually come on that day), TOTAL REVENUE from the grandstand would be $1,850,000.

I don't know what the rent, insurance, payroll, etc. add up to, but I find it VERY hard to believe that Lanny and Emmett are making near what everyone thinks they are. Are they making money??? I don't know, and I don't really care. For their sakes, I hope they are, every race promoter wishes they had an event of this magnitude that they could be guaranteed a certain amount of $$ on to help make up for those events that they lose their shirt on.

Anyone that even WORKS for a company of any size (or even those self employed) know that there is a HUGE disparity between REVENUE and PROFIT.

At some point, I'm sure they could raise the purse, but I'm sure that all of their COSTS increase EVERY YEAR to hold this event.

The purse for Chili Bowl doesn't really matter. You don't go there to win the money you go there to win the title. Other than knowing how much the winner takes home there is no posted purse for a reason.

As for the owners revenue from Chili Bowl. The Tulsa Shootout pays for the expenses of The Tulsa Shootout & Chili Bowl and the funds from Chili Bowl are all profit. Yes it takes a lot of $$$ to put on a show like this but would you continue year after year if you were losing $$$. They stuck out the bad years and are now reaping the rewards. Kudos to them!

There is no other show like Chili Bowl and if I could go every year I most certainly would. :)

As somebody stated, if the drivers and fans aren't complaining and they are still showing up and supporting this deal, I really don't think it is anybody's business how much they make or trivial stuff of that nature.

Emmett and Lanny thought of this deal and it has grown to be the animal it is today. They should be rewarded financially.

Is there another topic we can bitch about?

That last point is a good one. The only thing you can count on going up is the cost and if they have out-paced the cost by any number of years so that they can still make an acceptable profit without raising the price to consumers then it's the consumer that benefits. Ask anyone trying to make buck booking a World of Outlaw show how tough that is because the only thing that has changed about the product is the cost. It would appear that most who book the shows have no margin to work with in terms of cost of the product and an acceptable profit so ticket / pit pass prices keep going up. The "Gold Cup" this year was a prime example of this concept. Eventually push comes to shove: same product + higher price = some people having no choice but to do something else with their spending money. Not sure what the answer is but it would appear that the folks in Tulsa through planning, luck, good fortune, or a combination of the three are in pretty good shape and I don't think you can say that there aren't a lot of parties that benefit from the situation.

I'm confused why people bi*ch about people making money. How much you pay for a Big Mac? It costs $.70 to make one...we pay a minimum of $3.70. $3.00 profit. Not bad. If racers, sponsors, and fans continue to attend the Chili Bowl, why can't they(Lanny & Emmit) make money? I'm a rookie(for posting, but been reading it for 8+ yrs), but I am looking forward to my virgin year of the Chili Bowl 2012. I do not mind paying my $230 for my tickets if the racing, hospitality, and entertainment is what I have been told it is. Looking forward to Tulsa.

I built an A class micro that Scott Sawyer drove for me at the 2006 Tulsa Shootout. We won the A feature that paid $500 a pretty decent watch and most importantly a Golden Driller!! By the time I kept a little money myself, gave Scott a little money, and paid for gaskets and such to put my engine back together I was left with $0.

Like Meatbag said, it's not about the money it's about winning the Chili Bowl or in my case the Tulsa Shootout. I have something that Tony Stewart, Sammy Swindell, Kevin Swindell, Cory Kruseman, Rich Vogler and many other great drivers have.................a Golden Driller!!

Wesmar, what the heck do you know,, LOL

do you have any entries for the coming shootout or bowl, look forward to seeing you I am hoping to make it down for at least two nights of the bowl, and time for a new hat, not sure how much food or drink it will cost me but look forward to you and so many other friends

yes the purse sucks, but the cost of the event and risk just like all racing is not really about profit to the drivers, if you want you favorite driver to make more money buy a shirt, hat or something else for or from them with some extra cash

Most "prestigious" midget race of the year should come with one of the most "prestigious" payouts of the year. When you beat 280 of the best race car drivers in the world you should come home with a FATASS check. Unless a Swindell wins it then it should be grandfathered that they win the old purse!

for the people that despise the mere chance that someone comes out ahead when they take the risk of scheduling a front gate race - stop acting like you "support racing" - stay home and call Obama to request a sympathy #%^&.

Now, now, you wouldn't want to cut in to Emmetts and Lanny's profit. To hear them say it "we barely break even", yeah right.

Seems to me the racers purse for winning this "prestigious" race is a joke compared to the amount of revenue generated over the 2 weeks of events taking place. Show the racers the MONEY

It's about time that some observant fella like yourself take the ball and run with it . Up until now, no one else has realized that revenues and profits are the same thing. It's time for you to host your own *prestigious* race, and pay out the big bucks. Do it quick, before those other guys catch on.

I really don't care what Emmit and Lanny make. They may need some of the proffit to help with other racing events through out the year. So in turn giving us more racing to enjoy!

Now on to the gripping.....

Im a "norman" man of size, 165lbs......PLEASE don't get mad at ME when I ask you the fat man to scoot down the row so I can have my space in that row!!
