After attending the Sprint Car 101 @ the Hall of Fame last week, I have some new observations....
Wow, the majority of the people that attended could care less what changes are going to be made or how Toby is going to get more fans there, they only cared about 2 things. How many nights are 305's running compared to 2011 and is the Saturday before Nationals gonna have 410's?
Both things could be figured out by anyone with a 1st grade math class and by reading the 2012 schedule.
I was more interested in what is Toby going to do to get more BUTTS IN THE SEATS every week, but alas, all the moderators and a majority of the questions from the audience were about the schedule.
Toby seems to have a good idea of changes he'd like to make, but it sounded to me like 2012 is going to be more of an observe season instead of a "let's change this" season.
Does sound like he and Brian Stickel are kicking around ideas on how they can make the weekly shows into EVENTS with pre-race events to encourage tailgating, families, etc..
Should see some good things in 2013, but I'm not looking for any changes (at least until mid-season) in 2012 (which is too bad, changes have to start immediately).
One BIG change that I think Toby needs to get to work on immediately are one of the 3 T's that he mentioned during the forum. TOILETS!
Even though I am a male and I will continue to come to the races no matter what, some SERIOUS money needs to be spent on the Women's restrooms if they want to attract families to the races. They need to make the women's restrooms a PALACE with tile floors, walls, etc.. and always have a staffer on hand to keep it clean. My wife won't even come to the Nationals with me anymore (the only event she used to attend) and bathrooms are one of the main reasons.
Once the Women's restrooms are addressed, then they can start making changes to the men's (none of them are up to code (including the one they built 2 years ago) as troughs are not code. Need to spend some $$ and have urinals for each person. Give people something to be respectful of and they will be respectful. Give them plywood doors and toilets from the 50's and they'll treat them as they have been.
Just my $.02
