It is true that SCRA did not have a banquet for the 2004 season. As I recall, funds were depleted in trying to keep the association in business. There wouldn't of been a year end payout anyway. We were all told earlier that year that more money would be paid at each event in lieu of year end cash. This was so we could offset the cost of travelling to other tracks to race at. I sure miss those banquets as they were a lot more enjoyable than what we have now. We got more $$$$ than now and we were the only group to be focused on. Guess we can always call it the "good ole days."

Yenko, you can probably forget ever going to a banquet like the SCRA, those were obviously professionally done, probably very costly for the club. That was like being in Hollywood for the Oscars'.

It would be nice If people would check the facts before posting . I rarely Post here and anyone who knows me, I rarely get out of Line. But if the facts are not known correctly on The Past . Then Nothing Should be said at all. Its not a place to Flap your "I am Bored" Ideas or thoughts. The 2004 S.C.R.A. Season is in the Past. But it still burns Bright on what The True 410 Non-Wing Sprint Car Racing was about. Go "Super Rickie Gaunt". Everyone have a safe Weekend.

I'm sure glad everyone on this site is not the "strong silent type" and are actually able to share their thought's and show emotions on a sport they are passionate about. Any mistakes about facts will soon be straightened out by the many knowledgeable people on this forum and they will enjoy doing it too! This forum would soon die or become boring as he** without the characters and a little or a lot of disagrement at times..If I'm one of those charectors who shares "ideas and thoughts" so what?
Hope to see you at Manzy....... Kenny

There is a few men that are from the west coast that not only showed them how it's done at Ascot,Manzy and other left coast tracks, but also showed them how to get it done in the USAC boys own backyard.

Are you talking about a man like one who could drop by on a Saturday night, fire up Aggie's "Used Food Special" and win an Ascot feature then jump in a winged car and win the the Knoxville Nationals?
Everything you know is wrong.

I'm not sure about Aggies car but I do know "the flying shoe" won the nationals in 79 driving Stanton's car. I do know the reason it was called the ("used" food special) though, because when I was a kid Aggie was the garbage king in that area,he picked up our "used food" in Torrance took it to his pig-farm and out came a race car..When I was about 8 our neighbor who was also a race fan took me out to see Aggies pigfarm, How weird is that?

I only recall one win for the "used food special", I'm pretty sure it was Tommy Astone drving the car. It was a Grant King car like the one Sweeney drove, might have been around the time Jack Gardner was the crew chief.

...I'd put the "Tempe Tornado" on that list...

Well yeah, two of those drivers were mentioned the "Tempe Tornado" and the "flyin shoe". We have never been short on top notch drivers, never.

I'm justwondering, would Jay Drake, Cory K, Josh Wise and Hagen fit into that 'west coast' catagory? Isn't the kid on the pole at Daytona the son Ascot driver Butch Gilliland? I'm trying to remember where Kasey Khane and Jason Leffler came from, how about those Mears kids, maybe even a mention for Jimmie Johnson and a few other NASCAR front runners from the west coast. Is it fair to include a guy by the name of Jeff Gordon? Next up will be Damion Gardner.

justwandering,
Yes those guys you listed would be considered west coast guys, but I thought we were talking about guys who ran at Ascot and with the exception of Jeff Gordon none of the other guys mentioned ever ran at Ascot and most were still little kids when we were still racing there.
