Butch said it perfectly. This race would be great to have happen.
The biggest thing to keep in mind for anyone that loves sprint car racing, when a fairgrounds track closes, they rarely if ever re-open! And you just don't see too many privately owned tracks opening especially in California. We need to cherish each and every track we have. Hopefully this thing happens and is a grand success. Because if there is any person in Northern California that has ever earned a special race in his or her honor, it would be Louis Vermeil. The man was a prince and truly loved race cars, racers, and race fans!

Has anyone considered approaching Randy Lynch, the owner of Bennett Lane Winery in Calistoga, as a potential sponsor of this event?
The NASCAR West team that he owns, and which his winery sponsors, won the Grand National West championship last year and took second in 2006. This year Bennett Lane will be the title sponsor of the Saturday support race at Infineon (Sears Point) Raceway's NASCAR weekend. Finally, the winery itself is situated within three miles of Calistoga Speedway!
Admittedly, Mr. Lynch's focus is on NASCAR rather than sprint cars. He appears to be a "real racer", however, and might enjoy being involved with an event of such strong local and historic significance.
The following is a link to the team's website:

Just an idea.
